A 40-year-old woman was apprehended by police in Gujarat for allegedly abducting a four-year-old boy from the bus station area in Surendranagar district. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, involving a child from a labourer’s family residing on the pavement near Patdi bus station. Following the abduction, a complaint was lodged with Patdi police, which subsequently initiated an investigation.

Security footage from the vicinity was examined by law enforcement, which revealed a woman holding the hand of the boy at the time of the incident. This crucial evidence led to the distribution of the child’s details and images captured from the CCTV through an emergency alert to the Ahmedabad city control room and surrounding police stations.

Police Response and Child Rescue Operation

Based on the alerts generated from the emergency broadcast, officers from the Sola police station received a tip-off regarding a woman with a child who matched the description of the kidnapped boy. This information came from a location close to the Prasang Party Plot crossroads. Police Inspector KN Bhukan confirmed that officers quickly detained the woman and verified the child’s identity, ensuring his safe recovery.

The suspect was identified as Reema, also known as Ramila or Tini, originally from Bhiloda in Aravalli district. It was reported that she had been living on the pavement beneath a flyover across from Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, relying on begging and the collection of plastic waste for her livelihood. This background raised concerns regarding her motives for the abduction.

Upon questioning, the woman allegedly admitted to the crime, stating that her intention was to force the child into begging at traffic signals. This revelation shed light on the predatory tactics used by individuals exploiting vulnerable children for financial gain.

The child was returned safely to the authorities, who are now facilitating his reunion with his parents. The Sola police are coordinating with Patdi police to ensure proper legal action is taken against the accused.
