A Class 8 student died by suicide in Karnataka’s Bengaluru Urban district after allegedly claiming in a handwritten note that she could no longer bear the humiliation of being falsely accused of stealing money at school.

The girl was found hanging at her residence in Marasuru in Anekal taluk on Thursday night. Her family has alleged that she took the step after being reprimanded by a teacher, while police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Handwritten Note Mentions Theft Allegations At School

According to police, the student left behind a handwritten note in which she claimed she had been falsely accused of stealing Rs 20 and Rs 10 at her government higher primary school.

The girl wrote that she had been scolded by teachers and was deeply hurt by the allegations against her.

She said she was unable to cope with the shame and humiliation she experienced following the accusations.

In the note, the student said she felt she no longer deserved to live and repeatedly apologised to her mother, siblings and other family members.

She asked her family members to forgive her and requested that no one hold her mother responsible for her death, maintaining that she had taken the decision on her own.

Family Alleges Student Was Reprimanded By Teacher

The girl’s family alleged that she was driven to take the extreme step after being reprimanded by a teacher at school.

Her mother told the media that there had been no harassment at home and that she had only heard that her daughter had been troubled by teachers.

“I don’t know exactly what happened. If someone had harassed her at home, she would have told me. There was no harassment at home. I only heard that some teachers at school had troubled her. I don’t know which teacher or teachers,” the mother said.

She said she was undergoing treatment at a hospital for a skin-related ailment when the incident occurred.

The mother came to know about her daughter’s death after family members informed her over the phone.

Police Verify Note, Probe Circumstances Of Death

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the girl’s family found her.

A case has been registered at Suryanagar Police Station, and an investigation is underway.

Police said they were verifying the contents of the handwritten note and investigating the circumstances that led to the student’s death.

Investigators are also examining the family’s allegation that the girl had been scolded at school before her death.
