The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has praised Sonam Wangchuk for his 26-day hunger strike, calling it a pivotal moment in the nationwide movement addressing alleged examination irregularities. The CJP stated that his Gandhian approach to satyagraha served to “awaken an entire nation.” This commendation followed the CJP’s decision to withdraw its 37-day protest at Jantar Mantar, which came after successful discussions with government representatives.

In a message shared on X, the CJP expressed deep gratitude towards Wangchuk, noting that his peaceful protest helped unify citizens across the country in a collective struggle. His dedication and actions, described as “a pure and supreme sacrifice,” are cited as a historical moral force amidst challenging circumstances.

Withdrawal of Protest Following Government Agreement

Earlier in the day, the CJP formally announced its decision to end the prolonged agitation after a series of talks with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh in New Delhi. Chief spokesperson Saurav Das articulated that the organisation was concluding the protest “in good faith,” owing to the Centre’s agreement to several crucial demands with fixed timelines for implementation.

The CJP outlined that the government has committed to providing compensation to the families of NEET aspirants who tragically took their own lives. Additionally, there are assurances for the withdrawal of FIRs against protesters nationwide. The organisation has proposed a five-point charter aimed at broader reforms in the educational and examination systems, with another meeting planned in four weeks to assess progress on these recommendations.

In a notable development earlier on the same day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation from the Cabinet. He emphasized his decision was intended to prevent the ongoing protests from being exploited by “anti-national forces.” His resignation letter stressed the importance of national unity and safeguarding students from legal entanglements.

Wangchuk Calls for Continued Reform and Peaceful Advocacy

Speaking at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Wangchuk responded positively to the government’s actions, regarding Pradhan’s resignation as “a victory for democracy.” He urged all students and protesters to maintain a peaceful and humble stance following what he termed a significant accomplishment for democracy. Wangchuk highlighted that true democratic strength is derived from peaceful actions rather than forceful measures.

Further, he noted that while accountability has been achieved, there remains a pressing need for continued reforms in education and governance. Wangchuk asserted that a resilient nation cannot be built solely on single resignations; rather, consistent efforts towards educational reform are essential.

In the backdrop of these events, the government is reportedly gearing up to introduce stringent laws against examination-related corruption. This includes plans for Special Fast-Track Courts and a Special Task Force dedicated to addressing these issues, aimed at preventing future irregularities in examinations across the country.
