A 43-year-old man linked to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagamy (TVK) party has been taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a ten-year-old girl in Chennai. The accused, identified as Dinesh, also known as Pambu Dinesh, was arrested following a complaint filed by the victim’s family earlier this week. According to police reports, the incident occurred in Mylapore, where the child had visited a relative’s home in Kasimedu Singaravelan Nagar, located within the R.K. Nagar constituency.

It is reported that while the girl was playing outdoors, Dinesh, who resides nearby, allegedly lured her into his house. Once there, he is accused of sexually assaulting her and subsequently threatening her life should she disclose the incident. After returning home, the girl confided in her aunt, prompting the parents to file a formal complaint at the Kasimedu police station on May 3.

In light of the victim’s age, the case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). The case was subsequently referred to the Royapuram All Women Police Station for deeper investigation and follow-up actions.

Accused’s Arrest Efforts

Police teams commenced efforts to apprehend Dinesh on May 4 but faced challenges as he was allegedly present at a vote-counting centre, where he was backing a candidate representing the R.K. Nagar constituency on behalf of TVK. Authorities conducted several searches but were unable to locate him initially.

However, by the same evening, Dinesh was traced and arrested. Upon his apprehension, he was presented before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Investigators are now working on gathering additional evidence and exploring all facets of the case.

The TVK party, led by Vijay, achieved a significant victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 out of 234 seats.
