Burqa-Clad Man Allegedly Murders Friend Over Gold Chain

The CSR Journal Magazine

The tragic incident occurred when an 18-year friendship culminated in the murder of Prakash Chandra Gupta, aged 30, by his close associate, Mohit Dwivedi, aged 31, over a gold chain valued at Rs 5 lakh. The crime took place on May 31, 2026, during the IPL final. Mohit had meticulously planned the attack, utilising online resources to learn how to disguise himself in a burqa.

On the night of the crime, knowing that Prakash would be staying overnight to watch the match at his computer coaching institute, Mohit arrived in the disguise along with women’s footwear. Inside the premises, a struggle ensued when Mohit attempted to seize the heavy gold chain from an apparently intoxicated Prakash.

During the altercation, Prakash was forcefully shoved to the ground, which led to fatal injuries to his head. Following this brutal act, Mohit fled the scene with both the gold chain and a bracelet, leaving his friend bleeding. The next morning, Prakash’s family discovered his body in a pool of blood, initially suspecting an accidental fall.

Investigation and Discovery

After the discovery of Prakash’s body, the police initially viewed the incident as a medical emergency. However, the fact that jewellery had gone missing prompted investigators to classify the case as a homicide, leading to a comprehensive investigation. Despite early efforts yielding no leads, senior officer Raghubir Lal took charge and reviewed regional surveillance footage, which ultimately proved pivotal.

While examining the CCTV videos, he identified the burqa-clad individual whose gait appeared to contrast with the disguise. Investigators proceeded to track this figure across 100 surveillance cameras, eventually linking the individual to a specific vehicle. They then established that Mohit had changed from his disguise after the crime.

Authorities swiftly apprehended Mohit, who, prior to his arrest, had maintained a facade of normalcy. He spent the morning interacting with Prakash’s grieving family and was seen chatting with investigators at the scene. After the murder, he took part in a competitive examination and travelled to Lucknow.

Community Reaction and Family’s Grief

The brutal betrayal has left Prakash’s family devastated, grappling with the loss of a beloved member and the shocking violation of trust from a close friend. Vikas, Prakash’s brother, expressed his disbelief and sorrow over the situation. “We never expected Mohit to do this,” he stated, reflecting the profound impact of betrayal in their lives.

Vikas emphasised the void left by his brother’s death and the sense of insecurity it has instilled within the family. “He destroyed an 18-year-old friendship out of pure greed. He was my only brother; who can we ever trust now?” he lamented, signalling a deep sense of betrayal and loss.

The incident highlights not only the tragic end of a long-standing friendship but also raises concerns about criminal activities driven by greed. The investigation continues, ensuring that justice prevails in this unfortunate case.
