BJP President Nitin Nabin Takes Oath As Rajya Sabha Member

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nitin Nabin, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has officially taken his oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. The ceremony took place on April 16, and Nabin was among several newly elected representatives who participated in this significant event in the Upper House of Parliament. His arrival was marked with a warm welcome from BJP MP Arun Singh, highlighting the support within the party.

Political Background of Nitin Nabin

Nitin Nabin, a prominent figure in Indian politics, began his electoral journey at a young age, first securing a seat in the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2006. He was elected from the Patna West Assembly constituency, showcasing his early commitment to public service. Since 2010, Nabin has continuously represented the Bankipur Assembly constituency, winning elections in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025, marking his place as a five-time MLA. This consistent success underscores his influence in the state’s political landscape.

Prior to becoming the national president of the BJP, Nabin also held a ministerial position in the Government of Bihar. His experience in various capacities within the state government has shaped his political acumen and leadership abilities. As he steps into his role in the Rajya Sabha, his background in state politics is expected to inform his contributions at the national level.

On the same day as Nabin’s oath, there were other notable political developments in the state of Bihar. The BJP leader Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the new Chief Minister, succeeding Nitish Kumar. Choudhary’s ascent to this role represents a significant shift in the state’s political dynamics and leadership.

Samrat Choudhary Takes Over as Chief Minister

Samrat Choudhary was administered the oath of office by Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at Lok Bhavan in Patna. His appointment as the Chief Minister marks a historic moment for the BJP, as he is the first member of the party to hold this position after Nitish Kumar’s tenure, which spanned over a decade. Kumar’s decision to transition to the Rajya Sabha enables a new leadership structure within the state’s government.

The 57-year-old Choudhary faces considerable challenges as he assumes leadership. He replaces Nitish Kumar, who was sworn in for a record 10th time in 2025, following a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent assembly elections. This situation places Choudhary in a pivotal role as he seeks to maintain the party’s momentum in Bihar.

Alongside Choudhary, Bihar’s governance structure is being fortified by the induction of Deputy Chief Ministers from the Janata Dal (United). Senior party leader Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary were also sworn in, indicating a coalition approach towards governance. This partnership aims to ensure stability and continuity in policy-making as the new leadership adapts to the political landscape.
