A protest over allegations that the son of a Trinamool Congress leader was involved in a relationship with a married woman turned violent in West Bengal’s West Burdwan district on Wednesday, with a mob vandalising the politician’s residence.

A large group of villagers gathered outside the home of TMC Zilla Parishad member Bishwanath Bauri in Ratibati in the Raniganj rural area, demanding that his son, Pavitra Bauri, publicly accept the woman and marry her. Police deployed additional personnel after initially struggling to control the agitated crowd.

Alleged Relationship Triggers Protest Outside TMC Leader’s Home

According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the unrest began after allegations spread that Pavitra Bauri was involved in a relationship with a married woman from the neighbourhood.

As news of the alleged relationship circulated, a large number of villagers gathered outside the Bauri family’s residence and staged a protest.

Protesters demanded that if Pavitra Bauri and the woman were indeed in a relationship, he should publicly accept her and marry her.

Mob Throws Stones, Damages House

The protest later turned violent, with members of the crowd allegedly throwing stones at the residence and vandalising parts of the property.

The main gate, steel grills and window panes of the house were damaged during the unrest.

Local sources claimed that Bishwanath Bauri and members of his family left the residence as the situation escalated.

Woman Relative Seeks ‘Social Justice’

A woman relative identified as Basanti told the media that the family had known about the alleged relationship for a long time but was seeking “social justice” after the matter became public.

Basanti said the family did not want a confrontation and only wanted Pavitra Bauri to appear before them so the dispute could be resolved.

She also said the family had always respected Bishwanath Bauri and had never felt intimidated by him.

Additional Police Deployed After Violence

Police personnel initially reached the spot but reportedly struggled to control the agitated protesters.

Additional forces were later deployed to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence.

A heavy police presence remains in the area as authorities continue to monitor the situation. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
