Asia Cup 2025: Captain Suryakumar Yadav Donates Entire Match Fees to Armed Forces

The CSR Journal Magazine

Suryakumar Yadav has won hearts across the nation by announcing that he will be donating his entire match fees from the Asia Cup 2025 to the Indian armed forces and families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack. The announcement came just after leading the Indian cricket team to a memorable title win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a dramatic final held in Dubai, underlining not just his success as a cricketer but also his dedication to the country in its moments of need.

Suryakumar’s Pledge Stirs Emotion

Soon after the final whistle, Suryakumar Yadav took to his social media account and posted, “I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind”. The heartfelt message soon went viral, earning accolades from fans, officials, and sports personalities across platforms. Suryakumar’s donation totals Rs 28 lakh, calculated from Rs 4 lakh per match across the seven matches India played in the tournament.

Speaking about what inspired him, Suryakumar was quoted saying, “The thought came all of a sudden when I was giving this whole series of events that happened throughout the course of this tournament a thought. I was having my food in the dressing room and it was very peaceful out there, so this was the thought that came to my mind. What more can I do about the things that are in my control? When I took a stand after the first game, similar thoughts were already there in my mind, so I just acted upon it when I could”.

The Asia Cup win held special significance given the tense atmosphere after terror attacks in Pahalgam earlier in April, followed by subsequent cross-border military operations by the Indian forces. The Indian team’s dominating run in the tournament, including three consecutive wins over Pakistan, further strengthened their image as worthy ambassadors of both sport and national pride.

A Tournament of High Drama

The Asia Cup 2025 will be remembered not only for India’s on-field heroics, but also for tensions and controversies off the pitch. Throughout the tournament, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar, maintained a firm “No Handshake” stance in matches against Pakistan, making a statement of solidarity and respect for national issues. Even during the final, the Indian players avoided the customary handshake with the Pakistani side, keeping emotions in check while letting the cricket do the talking.

After winning the final, the Indian players also refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, citing their reservations over his recent statements. The ceremony came to an abrupt halt, with the trophy removed without being handed over to the team, reinforcing the strength of their collective stand.

Besides the donation announcement, Suryakumar made headlines for his dignified approach throughout the event. “We never made any gesture, no hand movements. We wanted to play the game with dignity. They wanted to make a statement outside,” he said in a post-match press conference, emphasising that India’s focus remained on the game and representing the country respectfully, regardless of provocations.

India Celebrates Cricket and Compassion

The captain’s actions have drawn applause from all corners, with the gesture seen as an example of using sporting achievement as a platform for national unity and healing. Suryakumar dedicated each victory to the bravery of the armed forces and the resilience of the victims’ families, stating after one win, “This is the perfect occasion to take the time out and say that we stand by the victims of the families of Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to put a smile on their face”.

His gesture inspired others off the field as well, with even the Pakistan captain reportedly following suit and pledging support for victims of violence, a rare moment of shared humanity in the heated world of international cricket rivalry.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, lifted the Asia Cup 2025 trophy without physically holding the cup, but their actions off the pitch proved their victory was far more than just a tally on the scoreboard. Suryakumar’s donation and the team’s unified approach showcased how cricket, at its best, can echo the country’s indomitable spirit in times of hardship.
