Argentine Ambassador Emphasises Economic Relations with India During National Day Celebrations

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent celebration of Argentina’s National Day in Mumbai highlighted the strengthening economic ties between Argentina and India, as noted by Ambassador Mariano Caucino. He articulated that the relationship between the two nations is founded on shared interests and mutual values, characterising it as a significant partnership.

During the event hosted by General Consul Daniel Quer Cofaloneri at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Caucino underscored pivotal moments in the bilateral relationship. He recalled the establishment of the Argentine General Consulate in Mumbai in 2009 and the elevation of their ties to a strategic partnership in 2019.

In 2019, Argentina also opened an Agriculture Attache office in Delhi, which has bolstered trade, particularly in the edible oils sector. According to Caucino, Argentina has become India’s primary supplier of edible oils, reflecting the deepening economic collaboration.

Cooperation in Global Issues

Addressing broader regional and global security concerns, Ambassador Caucino reaffirmed Argentina’s solidarity with India in combating terrorism. He referenced their joint efforts during India’s G20 presidency and emphasised the significance of multilateral cooperation to address urgent global issues, including cybercrime and poverty.

Caucino expressed condolences regarding recent terrorist incidents in India, highlighting Argentina’s firm stance against terrorism and extremism. He cited the incidents in Kashmir and Old Delhi, underlining the shared commitment of both countries to counter these challenges.

Both nations, according to Caucino, are aligned in their values, focusing on democracy, freedom, and human dignity. He reiterated the importance of minimal governmental interference in market matters while maintaining support for those in need, as echoed by Prime Minister Modi’s sentiments.

Economic Growth and Trade Developments

The ambassador spotlighted the remarkable growth in trade between the two countries, noting that the trade volume reached approximately 6 billion USD. He attributed this progress to India’s economic achievements, which have positioned it as the fourth-largest economy in the world.

Recent figures reflect a significant increase in bilateral trade, with a reported growth of 36.77% from January to November 2025. India presently ranks as Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner, enhancing the economic landscape for both nations.

Argentina primarily exports goods such as soybean oil, sunflower oil, and legumes to India. The introduction of critical minerals, including lithium and copper, has become increasingly vital due to India’s energy transition and industrial demands.

India’s exports to Argentina include a range of products, from pharmaceuticals to machinery, which contribute to the diversified trading relationship. Caucino affirmed that with consistent trade volumes, India has now become one of Argentina’s top six trading partners, reflecting a balanced and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

Increasing investments from Indian mining companies in Argentina’s Catamarca province have also been noted, with Indian firms exploring opportunities in lithium, copper, and gold. This is particularly relevant as India seeks to enhance its supply chain for critical minerals amidst its growing electric vehicle industry.

The collaborative efforts established through institutional and business visits further reinforce the strength of the Argentina-India relationship, particularly in the energy and minerals sector, marking an era of increased cooperation and economic exchange between both countries.
