Ammy Virk Defends Ranveer Singh in Don 3 Row, Questions ₹45 Crore Compensation Demand

The CSR Journal Magazine

The controversy surrounding Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 has drawn support from Punjabi actor-singer Ammy Virk, who has expressed scepticism about the timing of Excel Entertainment’s alleged compensation demand. Ammy contended that Ranveer should not be held accountable for the reported claim of Rs 45 crore, suggesting that the request arose following the actor’s recent success with the Dhurandhar franchise.

The dispute became public several months after Singh’s success with Dhurandhar, with claims indicating that Excel Entertainment was seeking damages because he departed from Don 3 shortly before filming was set to commence. As of now, the matter remains unresolved, adding to the complexity of the situation.

In a conversation with Connect Cine, Ammy, who starred alongside Ranveer in the film 83, stated his belief in the actor’s integrity and questioned why the production company had not previously pursued action. He remarked, “I feel, when he had a few flops, then you could have started Don 3. Then they ignored him. Now that Dhurandhar is a hit, they are asking for their money back.”

Ranveer Singh’s Journey with Don 3

The origins of the Don 3 controversy trace back to August 2023 when Ranveer was unveiled as the new protagonist for the film, taking over a role famously portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan and reinvigorated by Shah Rukh Khan. This casting change elicited both excitement among fans and doubts regarding the choice, igniting a lively discussion within the film community.

Farhan Akhtar, the filmmaker behind the franchise, announced the new chapter through a teaser, positioning Ranveer as a modernised version of the iconic character. However, following the initial excitement, information regarding the film’s production, cast, and release timetable began to dwindle, leading to speculation about underlying issues.

Reports indicated that the actor was growing increasingly discontent due to delays and the lack of a finalised screenplay. Furthermore, there were allegations of creative disagreements between Ranveer and the production team, with the actor reportedly favouring a darker interpretation of the character compared to the tones of prior films in the franchise.

Moreover, the atmosphere reportedly became tense as decisions about potential casting changes emerged despite Ranveer’s continued public association with the film. Ultimately, what began as whispers about creative differences escalated into the actor’s official departure from the project.

Financial Dispute and Industry Reactions

The conflict transitioned into a financial dispute, with industry reports revealing that Excel Entertainment sought approximately Rs 40–45 crore in compensation, attributing the request to financial losses incurred during the film’s development. The situation garnered significant attention, eventually involving the Producers Guild of India, before being escalated to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).

In light of the unfolding drama, Ammy Virk emphasised that it was “not Ranveer’s fault” and suggested that the production company could pursue legal action if necessary. He commented, “These kinds of cases go nowhere. They go on for 20 years,” highlighting the often prolonged nature of legal disputes in the film industry.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how it will impact the respective careers of those involved, particularly for Ranveer Singh as he continues to navigate the aftermath of this controversy. The industry watches closely as both sides assess their next steps amidst ongoing speculation.
