The CSR Journal Magazine

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has formally requested a high-level investigation into the death of actor Sanchita Ugale. The letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasises the need for a thorough and transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding her demise. AICWA expressed their concern regarding the matter and the impact it has had on the Indian entertainment industry.

Details Surrounding Ugale’s Death

Sanchita Ugale, aged 26, reportedly died by suicide at her residence in Achole, located in Nalasopara East, within the Vasai taluka of Palghar district. The association conveyed that the investigation must delve into all possible angles related to her death. They highlighted that recent years have witnessed several incidents of alleged suicides in the film industry, with many families and colleagues raising concerns that remain unaddressed.

The AICWA described Ugale’s death as a significant loss for the film and television sector. They noted her emerging career, which included projects such as Kumkum Bhagya, Chhaava (2025), Dilwale Dulha Le Jayegi, Wagle Ki Duniya, and Silence: The Night Owl Bar Shootout (2024). The association underscored the need to preserve the legacy of the talented performer whose contributions were recognised by both audiences and colleagues alike, remarking that the memories of her work will endure.

Further, details leading up to her death have raised additional questions. AICWA mentioned that hours before the news broke, Ugale had posted a vibrant video on her Instagram Stories, featuring the song Dafali Wale Dafli Baja. This point highlights the importance of examining all available evidence in a comprehensive manner as part of the ongoing investigation.

Industry Response and Support for Ugale’s Family

The president of AICWA, Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, has called on the Chief Minister to initiate a high-level inquiry to ensure justice for Ugale’s family. Gupta reiterated that the investigation should scrutinise every detail before drawing any conclusions. He also emphasised the urgent need for a review of the safety and support systems within the entertainment industry, which have been questioned following various reported incidents.

AICWA’s statement underscored the collective grief experienced by Ugale’s family and the entire film fraternity. They extended heartfelt condolences to her loved ones, stating that the enormity of loss for her family is beyond words. The association expressed solidarity with Ugale’s family in their pursuit of justice, affirming a commitment to ensure that similar tragedies do not occur in the future.

Additionally, AICWA urged the Maharashtra government and relevant authorities to establish a dedicated committee tasked with addressing the increasing number of deaths related to mental health crises in the entertainment sector. They reaffirmed their demand for an impartial and comprehensive investigation into Ugale’s case and the broader issue of mental health support for artists. The association remains resolute in its advocacy for the well-being of all those involved in the entertainment industry.
