A 69-year-old man from Tamil Nadu has been apprehended for allegedly deceiving more than 300 luxury hotels across India over a span of 36 years. The individual, Bingson John, was taken into custody in Bhubaneswar following a formal complaint made by a five-star hotel in Raipur. The Raipur Police reported that John’s fraudulent activities included posing as a foreign tour guide, an English teacher, and a yoga instructor to gain the trust of hotel personnel.

John purportedly utilised these assumed identities to secure luxury accommodations and various hotel services, only to leave without settling his outstanding bills. In numerous instances, he allegedly absconded with hotel property, further compounding his criminal activities.

Modus Operandi and Recent Case Details

The latest registered case against John followed his stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Raipur, where he checked in on June 25 and departed on the morning of June 27 without completing checkout formalities. He reportedly failed to pay a bill amounting to Rs 63,755 and also took possession of a laptop valued at approximately Rs 1.48 lakh, which had been provided at his request.

After several unsuccessful attempts by the hotel management to reach him, they sought the assistance of local law enforcement. Consequently, the Telibandha Police initiated a case under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This prompted a joint investigation involving both the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit and the Telibandha Police.

Investigators employed technical analysis of documents and mobile numbers supplied by the accused, ultimately leading them to Bhubaneswar, where he was found and arrested.
