A total of 203 couples participated in a mass wedding ceremony held in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, on July 12. This event was organised under the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. The initiative aims to facilitate marriages for economically disadvantaged families. The ceremony took place on a Saturday and brought together couples from various backgrounds to celebrate their union.

Significance of the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana

The Chief Guest for this event was Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism and Culture Minister, Jaiveer Singh. He highlighted the government’s continued dedication to social welfare initiatives during his address. Singh stated that the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana has become a vital support system for families facing financial difficulties when it comes to arranging weddings. He expressed hopes that the support provided would uplift these families.

Of the 203 couples, 14 were from the Muslim community, and their marriages were solemnised according to Islamic traditions. The remaining couples, who identify as Hindu, participated in their marriages amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns, reflecting the diverse cultural tapestry of the region. This dual ceremony structure underscored the inclusive nature of the initiative.

As part of the scheme, each couple received financial assistance amounting to one lakh rupees, designed to ease the financial burden associated with wedding festivities. In addition to financial support, the couples were also presented with gifts and well-wishes from esteemed attendees after the completion of the wedding rituals.

Attendance and Support from Local Dignitaries

The mass wedding event witnessed significant turnout, with numerous family members of the couples and local citizens in attendance. Prominent figures including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and various public representatives were present to lend their support to this community initiative.

The presence of these officials and dignitaries highlights a collective commitment to improving the lives of citizens within the state. The initiative reinforces the importance of community support in facilitating major life events, especially for those who may struggle to finance such occasions.

The Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana was established by the Uttar Pradesh government in October 2017. Since its inception, the programme has aimed at mitigating the financial strains linked to marriages and encouraging social harmony through collective celebrations. Events like this one not only help families financially but also promote a sense of unity among diverse groups within the region.
