“Govt Forgets Stolen Donations Hurt Devotees”: Pawan Khera On Fir Against MPs Over Ram Mandir Donation Theft Skit

The CSR Journal Magazine

Veteran Congress MP Pawan Khera has expressed concern regarding the FIR filed by Varanasi police against prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi. He stated that the BJP-led central government seemingly overlooks significant issues such as the alleged theft of donations intended for the Ram Mandir. Khera highlighted that this negligence impacts the emotions of devotees who contribute to such causes.

During his remarks, Khera asserted that while FIRs are filed against Members of Parliament, the government fails to acknowledge the emotional distress caused when donations are allegedly misappropriated. He believes that the situation reflects an oversight of the sentiments associated with religious contributions.

This controversy arose from a demonstration in which Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, donning saffron robes resembling a temple priest, along with other opposition MPs, performed a skit that insinuated corruption involving a donation collection box. The performance was met with criticism from BJP leaders, leading them to lodge formal complaints with the police in New Delhi.

Legal Actions Following Performance

The police complaints filed by BJP representatives, including Bansuri Swaraj and several MLAs, accused the opposition members of deliberately causing outrage among Hindu religious followers. In addition to the FIR registered in Varanasi as a result of a complaint from a local religious leader, another police complaint was submitted against Pappu Yadav at Jehangirpuri Police Station in Delhi by petitioner Surya Maithil.

Khera’s comments reflect a broader concern within the Congress party regarding the ongoing legal actions initiated against opposition figures in response to their protests and expressions in Parliament. He underscored the need for sensitivity towards the sentiments of the devotees and questioned the motivations behind the actions taken by the BJP.

In the context of ongoing discussions related to the Delimitation Bill, Khera referred to Rahul Gandhi’s statements made in Tamil Nadu, suggesting that they were accurate and warranted support. He emphasised that the concerns raised about the delimitation process should resonate with all political factions, urging a united front against the move.

Opposition to Delimitation Bill Highlighted

Khera articulated that the proposed Delimitation Bill poses a threat to the political empowerment of Tamil Nadu, referring to it as a tactic to diminish the state’s influence. He described the BJP’s approach to delimitation as a broader conspiracy to undermine the rights of the Tamil people, asserting that this effort must be collectively resisted by all concerned political entities.

According to Khera, supporters of the Delimitation Bill are betraying Tamil Nadu and its citizens’ futures. He urged opposition leaders to rally against this legislative agenda to protect the state’s political interests. His remarks signal heightened tensions between the Congress party and the ruling government, particularly over issues of state representation and governance.

The ongoing discourse surrounding both the alleged donation theft and the delimitation proposals indicates a significant rift in Indian politics, with parties drawing lines over issues related to religious sentiments and regional autonomy. Khera’s statements encapsulate the Congress party’s pushback against perceived injustices perpetrated by the current administration.
