“Will not be Intimidated by US Threats”: Iran Stands Firm Amid Nuclear Negotiations

The CSR Journal Magazine

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has asserted the nation will not be intimidated by the presence of US military forces in the Gulf region. His comments came following a visit by US envoy Steve Witkoff to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. Araghchi stated that the military deployment does not instill fear within Iran.

Continued Dialogue on Nuclear Program

According to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, recent discussions regarding Tehran’s nuclear program concluded with a framework aiming to maintain diplomatic efforts. The President emphasized that dialogue remains Iran’s primary approach to resolving its disputes.

Posting on X, he described the recent Iran-US conversations, facilitated by several regional governments, as a step in the right direction. He reiterated that Iran’s stance on the nuclear issue is grounded in its rights as outlined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Expectation of Further Negotiations

Both Iranian officials and Omani intermediaries have indicated that additional discussions may take place soon. Foreign Minister Araghchi characterized the recent eight-hour negotiations as an encouraging beginning, noting the constructive environment that permeated the dialogue.

He highlighted that the future of these talks will depend on internal deliberations in both Washington and Tehran and stressed that dialogue should proceed without any threats or intimidation.

Tensions in the Region

Military tensions between the United States and Iran remain palpable. Following Witkoff’s visit to the aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, which was promoted by US Central Command, he remarked that the presence of the carrier strike group was crucial to maintaining safety and supporting President Trump’s emphasis on peace through strength. However, Araghchi has cautioned that any military action taken by the US could lead to retaliation against American bases in the region.

In light of ongoing tensions, Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s missile program is not subject to negotiations. He emphasized that this aspect is a vital component of national defense, disregarding calls from both Washington and Israel to broaden discussions beyond the nuclear agenda.

Israeli Concerns and Ongoing Meetings

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is anticipated to meet with President Trump in Washington. His office has communicated that any potential agreement with Iran must impose restrictions on the nation’s ballistic missile capabilities and curb Iran’s support for its allies in the region. This development underscores the complexity of the ongoing US-Iran relations and the broader geopolitical landscape.
