The outcome of this election is crucial for the party as it prepares for forthcoming governance responsibilities.

Following the legislative party meeting, a swearing-in ceremony is set for May 9 at 10 am. This event will reportedly feature high-profile attendees, including the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and other key leaders from the BJP. Bhattacharya emphasised the significance of this moment for the party as it aims to solidify its position within the state.

During his address, Bhattacharya confirmed the details of the meeting and the subsequent ceremony, stating, “On 8th May at 4 pm, a legislative party meeting will be held. The leader of the legislative party will be elected.” Such announcements indicate the party’s intention to take decisive steps in government formation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Visit

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit West Bengal on the evening of May 6, as part of the BJP’s ongoing political engagements following its significant success in the recent elections. His visit is particularly noteworthy, occurring at a pivotal time for the party.

Shah’s itinerary includes attending a cabinet expansion oath-taking ceremony in Bihar before travelling directly to West Bengal. This multi-state engagement highlights the party’s strategic focus on consolidating its position following the electoral wins in different regions. Sources within the BJP suggest that his presence is crucial as the party initiates discussions regarding government formation and future strategies.

On May 4, Amit Shah was named the BJP’s central observer for the state of West Bengal, underscoring the importance of his role in the post-election period. Additionally, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has been appointed as the central co-observer for the state, further indicating the party’s concentrated efforts to manage its affairs effectively in West Bengal.

BJP Achieves Historic Electoral Success

The BJP’s recent electoral performance in West Bengal marks a historic milestone for the party. According to the latest data from the Election Commission of India, the BJP has secured a total of 206 seats out of 294 in the state assembly elections. This represents a significant increase from the 77 seats the party won in the 2021 Assembly elections.

In contrast, the Trinamool Congress, which previously dominated the past elections by winning 212 seats, has seen a decline, finishing second with 80 seats. The BJP’s success is indicative of a marked shift in the political landscape of West Bengal.

With the BJP now poised to form its first government in West Bengal, it also celebrates a hat-trick of victories within the party-led NDA in Assam. This unprecedented success in two significant states highlights the strategic influence and expansion of the BJP in eastern India.
