The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has officially launched the ‘Solar Awareness Souvenir Booklet’ at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on May 28. This booklet, developed by the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW), is positioned as more than a mere publication; it signifies the state’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and self-reliant future. The launch event was attended by various officials and stakeholders dedicated to the cause.

Emphasising Solar Energy’s Importance

During the event, Chief Minister Dhami highlighted global challenges such as climate change and energy shortages, underscoring that solar energy is essential for securing a sustainable future. He noted that the state has made significant strides under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a national initiative aimed at promoting solar energy. Uttarakhand has reportedly exceeded its target of installing 40,000 rooftop solar plants ahead of schedule, achieving nearly 95 per cent of the overall goal.

Dhami pointed out that Uttarakhand has emerged as one of the frontrunners in implementing the PM Surya Ghar Yojana effectively. He mentioned that since the start of 2024, the state has witnessed a remarkable increase in solar energy capacity, multiplying nearly tenfold within a span of two years. Currently, Uttarakhand stands with a total installed residential rooftop solar capacity of approximately 290 MW, marking a significant milestone towards energy independence.

The Chief Minister credited the coordinated efforts of various organisations, including UPCL and UREDA, along with regional officials, in achieving these remarkable results. He acknowledged that the success is attributable to the collective commitment of the teams involved, which he referred to as “Team Uttarakhand.” This collaboration has played a pivotal role in achieving the state’s ambitious solar energy objectives.

Civic Engagement and Awareness Campaigns

In addition to the technical achievements, Dhami spoke about the state government’s initiatives aimed at increasing public awareness surrounding solar energy. He mentioned the “Solar Kauthig” mass awareness campaign, alongside street plays and specialised training programmes for officials, which have been instrumental in spreading knowledge about the advantages of solar power throughout Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of making every citizen an active participant in the clean energy initiative. He noted that widespread adoption of solar energy could lead to reduced electricity costs for households, enhancing environmental protection and paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.

Expressing optimism about the future, CM Dhami stated that Uttarakhand is poised to become an exemplary model for renewable energy across the nation. He believes that the state’s initiatives will not only lead to environmental benefits but also foster economic growth and energy independence in the years to come.
