Mohit Yadav, a 33-year-old engineer, was found dead by suicide in a hotel near Etawah railway station. The incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh, on Friday evening. Following the discovery the hotel staff in Etawah alerted the police. This comes after Yadav did not leave his room or respond to calls throughout the day.
According to reports, Yadav had allegedly checked into the Jolly Hotel around midnight on Thursday. As the police arrived at the hotel they forced open the door. Yadav was found hanging from the ceiling fan from his hotel room. His laptop and mobile phone were recovered from the scene. However, no written suicide note or message was found.
Video Message Alleges Mental Harassment
Following the initial findings the police discovered video messages of Yadav from his laptop. According to police prior to his death, Yadav recorded a distressing video message for his parents. In the video he accused his wife and in-laws of persistent harassment. “If I don’t get justice even after my death, throw my ashes into the drain,” he said in the video.
Yadav further alleged that his wife, Priya, and her family threatened him with false dowry cases. He also claimed that they pressured him to transfer his property into her name. Yadav stated that his wife’s father had filed a fake police complaint against him. Not just that, his brother in law had issued threats to his life.
“My wife threatened me that if I didn’t register my house and property in her name, she would implicate my family in a dowry case. Her father, Manoj Kumar, filed a false complaint, and her brother threatened to kill me,” he said in the video.
Troubled Marriage and Forced Abortion Claims
According to reports, Yadav, a resident of Auraiya district and an engineer at a private cement company. He had been in a long-term relationship with Priya before they married in November 2023. Yadav stated in the video that Priya became pregnant after starting a teaching job in Bihar, but her mother forced her to abort the child. He also claimed that his mother-in-law kept all of Priya’s jewellery and that the marriage involved no dowry.
“By the time you get this video, I will be gone from this world. I wouldn’t have taken this step if there were a law for men. I couldn’t tolerate the harassment by my wife and her family,” he said in the video.
Growing Concern Over Lack of Protection for Men
Well, this is not the first such incident, the recent case draws extreme parallels from the Bengaluru techie Atul Subhas’ case. Meanwhile, Yadav’s tragic death has reignited calls for legal reforms to protect men from alleged false accusations. “If I don’t get justice even after death, throw my ashes into the drain,” he said in his final message.
The police Authorities are yet to receive a statement from Priya or her family members as investigations continue.
