Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore has expressed gratitude towards the electorate following the party’s commendable performance in the recent local body elections. Rathore highlighted that the elections were conducted peacefully, attributing the outcome to the voters’ support. He asserted that despite the opposition’s claims, the BJP secured more than double the number of seats compared to rival parties.

In his statements to ANI, Rathore noted the importance of acknowledging the blessings received from the public. He mentioned that the party’s performance in certain constituencies was less than satisfactory, indicating a need for an internal review. He emphasised that the BJP will assess its performance where it did not fare well to improve future outcomes.

Challenges Faced by the BJP

Rathore acknowledged instances of dissent among party members, which he suggested contributed to the losses in specific areas. He committed to reviewing these setbacks and implementing corrective measures to enhance the party’s organisational discipline moving forward. The emphasis, he stated, would be on consistent evaluations and strategies for improvement.

Additionally, Rathore rejected the notion that the BJP relied on government resources for its electoral success, asserting that the party depended on its organisational strength. His comment included a counter to a claim made by Congress regarding the party’s reliance on government machinery, highlighting the Congress’s presence in the elections despite its losses. He underscored that had government resources been pivotal, the Congress party would have performed poorly overall.

Allegations by Congress Leaders

In response to the BJP’s electoral tactics, Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged that the ruling party misused state machinery to secure positions, notably in the mayoral contests. Gehlot accused the BJP of employing the entire government apparatus, including the Chief Minister’s publicity campaigns, to influence election results unjustly.

Gehlot specifically mentioned the BJP’s defeat in several municipal corporations, stating that it had lost in four out of ten contested areas, including Pali, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Bharatpur. He claimed that, in light of these losses, the BJP was now trying to pressure independent and Congress councillors through police intimidation in various regions like Jodhpur and Alwar to sway their allegiance.

Moreover, Gehlot demanded accountability from the police and district administration to prevent any partisan actions during these elections. He asserted that the Congress party would take these allegations seriously and pursue accountability for officials seen as partaking in such improper actions.
