A 24-karat gold-plated idol of Lord Ganesha, embellished with 3,83,800 American diamonds, has been inaugurated at Lichi Pearl Set Jewels in Begum Bazar, Hyderabad. This installation marks the third consecutive year of Ganesh celebrations at this establishment. The organisers aimed to create something extraordinary in homage to the festival this year.

Adhar Agarwal, the organiser associated with Lichi Pearl Set Jewels, shared insights about the idol’s creation. He noted that this year’s celebration was enhanced by the introduction of a specially crafted idol designed to honour the occasion. The craftsmanship involved in this installation reflects the commitment to celebrating the festival in a unique and meaningful manner.

Craftsmanship and Design Elements of the Idol

The idol is constructed from brass and incorporates five different metals. Notable design elements include a depiction of Dasavataram at the back arch, a representation of Balaji positioned at the top, and sculptures of Saraswati and Lakshmi adorning the sides. These features were thoughtfully integrated to create a visually stunning piece, embodying spiritual and artistic values.

The 3,83,800 American diamonds incorporated into the design are typically utilised in fashion jewellery, demonstrating a blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Each diamond was meticulously hand-set, reflecting the high level of detail and care invested in the idol’s creation.

The craftsmanship involved a dedicated team of eight workers who laboured tirelessly for eight months to complete the project. The collaborative effort included card designers, casting professionals, stone setters, and polishing experts working together around the clock to achieve the final product.

Connection to Local Culture and Tradition

Agarwal explained that the idol’s design drew inspiration from Lalbagh ka Raja, a well-known figure in the local Ganesh festival tradition. His deep-rooted connection to the Old City of Hyderabad played a significant role in the motivation to produce a unique idol for the community. The Ganpati festival is profoundly cherished in this area, leading to a desire to contribute positively to its celebrations.

He emphasised the sentimental value of the Ganpati festival, noting how, from a young age, he and his team had aspired to create something memorable. This desire manifested in the form of the intricately designed idol, which they believed was a blessing and opportunity bestowed by Lord Ganesha himself.

The initiative to craft such a lavish idol during Ganesh Chaturthi reflects both the artistic aspirations of the creators and their respect for the cultural significance of this festival. Their efforts to honour Lord Ganesha through this piece of work have resonated with members of the community and festival enthusiasts alike.
