Praise has been extended to the Junior Women’s Hockey Team of India following their impressive victory at the AHF Junior Asia Cup 2026. The final, held against the host nation China, concluded with a narrow 1-0 scoreline, solidifying India’s reputation in the sport. Sanika Chandrakant Mane’s goal in the 17th minute was pivotal in allowing the defending champions to retain their title.

This victory marks the third consecutive title for the Indian Junior Women’s Team at the AHF Junior Asia Cup, which also guarantees their participation in the forthcoming FIH Junior Women’s World Cup. Hockey India has announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for every member of the support staff in recognition of their accomplishment.

Men’s Junior Hockey Team Secures Title

The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team has also emerged victorious at the 2026 Men’s Junior Asia Cup, achieving a decisive 4-1 win over Korea in the Gold Medal match held in Moqi, China. With this triumph, India has successfully defended its title for the sixth time, further enhancing its status in Asian hockey.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his admiration for the teams’ performance, crediting their success as a reflection of India’s increasing dominance in the sport at the continental level. In a message on social media platform X, Mandaviya lauded the athletes for their “total dominance” in Asian hockey.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal specifically congratulated the women’s team on their historic achievement, recognising the group’s dedication and ability. He highlighted the significance of their hat-trick of titles and wished them well as they prepare for the FIH Junior World Cup.

Public Recognition from Government Officials

Several high-ranking government officials have publicly acknowledged the achievements of both junior hockey teams. Kiren Rijiju, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, referred to the women’s team’s victory as a historic achievement and congratulated all involved, including players, coaches, and support staff. He expressed hope that this accomplishment would inspire future generations of athletes.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his congratulations to the junior men’s team, commending their determination and skill throughout the tournament. Shah emphasized the importance of their triumph as an example of Indian sportsmanship, reinforcing the notion of pride in national sporting achievements.
