The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, has praised the Bharatiya Janata Party’s performance in the urban local body elections in Rajasthan. He stated that the party’s success and the Congress’s defeat signify ongoing public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Yadav’s comments reflect the BJP’s emergence as a leading force in Rajasthan, particularly following its acquisition of 78 seats in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation board, while independent candidates made significant gains in other civic bodies.

In response to the election outcomes, Yadav remarked, “Faith in the BJP is being expressed across the entire country. The recent local body elections in Rajasthan yielded resounding victories for the BJP and disappointing results for the Congress party, which is positive news.” He highlighted the recent local body elections in Kota, where the BJP reportedly achieved considerable success despite Rahul Gandhi’s recent public engagement in the area.

Reactions from BJP Leaders on Election Trends

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi expressed satisfaction with the election results, indicating that they demonstrated a strong endorsement for the BJP in Rajasthan. He noted that the public responded robustly to the alleged manipulation of the local body election process by the Congress government. Trivedi underscored the significance of the BJP’s performance in Kota, stating that it reflects the youth’s growing support for the BJP.

Rohan Gupta, the BJP National Secretary, attributed the party’s electoral success to the government’s work and robust campaign outreach. He mentioned the “triple-engine” governance model and praised the way party leaders engaged the public during the campaign. Gupta emphasized that the commitment to fulfilling promises displayed by the Chief Minister was met with acknowledgment from the electorate, highlighting that BJP’s popularity appears to be growing despite Congress’s previous advantages in Lok Sabha elections.

He further commented on the changing dynamics within the Congress party, stating its divisions have increased, which contributes to their declining voter support. Gupta asserted that positive engagement with the public is essential to gain votes, insisting that mere social media campaigns are insufficient without genuine dedication to constituents’ needs.

Response from Rajasthan Congress Leadership

In contrast, Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra contended that the BJP’s electoral success was not a reflection of true public support but rather a consequence of historical voting patterns in local elections. He claimed that while the BJP dominated the Lok Sabha elections, its support has reportedly diminished significantly in the current civic polls, dropping to 34 to 35 per cent of the total votes.

Dotasra contested the BJP’s claims of victory in Jaipur, stating that Congress leads the BJP in total votes within the municipal corporation by approximately 10,000 votes. He emphasised that the BJP’s performance has been impacted by allegations of electoral misconduct, particularly regarding delimitation practices in major cities. Dotasra expressed that the results indicate a failure of the BJP’s governance and predicted that the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections would yield similarly disappointing outcomes for the BJP.

The BJP emerged as the dominant force in the Rajasthan urban local body elections, securing 4,179 out of 10,245 wards, while the Congress party garnered 3,613 seats. Independent candidates accounted for 2,273 wards, indicating their significant impact on the electoral landscape.
