The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has acknowledged the loss of lives, livestock, and property due to recent heavy rainfall. He directed senior officials to evaluate the extent of the damage and to provide immediate support to the affected families. This directive comes as a response to reports of excessive rain and lightning in various regions of the state.

Adityanath has instructed officials to ensure that compensation is disbursed to those impacted within a 24-hour timeframe. He emphasised the importance of maintaining communication with the affected individuals and ensuring they receive all necessary assistance. In addition, he urged residents to remain indoors during periods of lightning and to exercise caution when engaging in activities around rivers and water bodies during heavy rainfall.

Alert Issued for Several Districts

A red alert has been issued for multiple districts, where water levels in rivers have surpassed warning thresholds. Notable areas affected include the Hindon River in Baghpat and Gautam Buddh Nagar-Noida, the Ganga River in Budaun, the Ghaghara River in Ayodhya and Ballia, as well as the Gandak River in Kushinagar. The government is closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary precautions against potential flooding.

In response to ongoing weather challenges, the Chief Minister convened a high-level review meeting to address the dual threats posed by erratic rainfall: the risk of drought in regions experiencing limited rainfall and the risk of flooding in areas facing excessive precipitation. Adityanath stated that the safety of citizens, protection of agricultural crops, and sustaining the livelihoods of the public are the primary concerns of the state government.

He highlighted the need for tailored relief and rescue operations based on the specific conditions of each district. For districts facing below-average rainfall, efforts will be made to ensure that agricultural activities continue without disruption. The government will seek to maximise the utilisation of irrigation resources, including canals, reservoirs, and tube wells.

Weather Warnings and Alerts Issued

A red alert has also been issued for Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kasganj, Etah, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Badaun, and surrounding areas due to potential for extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, has been issued for several regions including Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, and adjacent areas.

In addition, a yellow warning has been released for areas such as Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, and Varanasi, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall. Local authorities in these regions are on high alert and are urged to prepare effective response strategies to mitigate the impact of these weather conditions on the local population and infrastructure.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and heed all official warnings as the situation evolves. The government remains committed to monitoring the impact of rainfall and ensuring prompt assistance to those affected, as recovery efforts are initiated in response to this critical situation.
