UP CM Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates A-Class Forensic Lab in Gorakhpur, Vows Zero Tolerance for Crime

The CSR Journal Magazine

Gorakhpur’s Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) has been upgraded to an A-Class facility, inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on November 18. Built at a cost of ₹72.78 crore, the six-storey lab marks a significant step in modernizing law enforcement in eastern Uttar Pradesh. CM Yogi highlighted that the “new Uttar Pradesh” has zero tolerance for crime and that offenders will face strict consequences.

The upgraded lab, equipped with advanced DNA diagnostics, AI-based systems, drone laboratories, robotics, and cyber forensics, will enable accurate, swift, and transparent investigations. CM Yogi said this infrastructure ensures that victims no longer suffer while criminals evade justice.

Expansion of Forensic Capabilities Across UP

Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh had only four forensic labs. Under CM Yogi’s administration, the number has increased to 12, with six more under construction. Plans are underway to equip every commissionerate with a forensic lab to ensure comprehensive evidence validation and rigorous action against criminals.

Additionally, two mobile forensic vans have been deployed in each district to facilitate rapid evidence collection. CM Yogi emphasized that modern forensic science, backed by new criminal laws such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, now makes forensic investigation mandatory for crimes carrying over seven years’ imprisonment.

Forensic Science as a Career Avenue for Youth

The state government has established the UP State Institute of Forensic Science in Lucknow to train future forensic experts. The institute offers certificate courses for lab technicians, diploma programs for field evidence collectors, and degree programs for forensic specialists.

Equipped with drones ranging from nano models to 40 kg variants, AI systems, and robotics labs, the institute aims to produce skilled professionals to support the growing demand for modern policing.

Modern Policing and Zero-Tolerance Law Enforcement

The upgraded Gorakhpur lab is capable of conducting advanced examinations, including ballistics, narcotics analysis, serology, cyber forensics, DNA profiling, and document verification. CM Yogi said these facilities will significantly improve investigation precision, speed, and transparency. Plans to elevate cyber forensic capabilities to international standards will help combat sophisticated, high-tech crimes.

Recruitment and Training of Police Personnel

Strengthening law enforcement remains a top priority for the state government. Over the past eight years, 2,19,000 police personnel have been recruited, surpassing the police strength of many other states. CM Yogi highlighted that police training capacity has increased more than tenfold, from 6,000 in 2017 to current government-run centers, eliminating the need for rented facilities.

The commissionerate system, operational in seven districts since 2020, along with 17 municipal corporations, Noida, and Greater Noida, has transformed urban policing. Over 13 lakh CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure real-time surveillance and faster identification of criminals.

Enhanced Women Safety and Workforce Participation

Law and order improvements have led to a significant increase in women’s workforce participation in UP, rising from below 13% to over 35%. Three new women’s PAC battalions, named after Veerangna Jhalkari Bai, Veerangna Uda Devi, and Veerangna Avanti Bai Lodhi, have been formed, alongside new PAC battalions in Balrampur, Jalaun, Mirzapur, Shamli, and Bijnor.

The state has also modernized police lines in ten districts and integrated emergency response services through the 112 system, linking police, ambulances, fire, and cyber helplines to provide faster assistance and justice.

Commitment to Transparent, Citizen-Centric Justice

CM Yogi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a secure, accountable, and citizen-friendly administration. During the inauguration, Lok Sabha MP Ravi Kishan praised the lab as a milestone in modern policing.

ADG Technical Services Naveen Arora and DIG Technical Services Anand Kulkarni highlighted technological advancements and extended their gratitude to the Chief Minister. The event was attended by senior police officials, state representatives, and MLAs.
