Char Dham Yatra Enters Final Phase as Footfall Crosses 6 Million Mark

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Char Dham Yatra has now entered its concluding phase, with official reports indicating that over six million pilgrims have visited the revered Himalayan shrines this season. As of Tuesday evening, the total footfall recorded stood at 6,031,017. This figure marks a significant increase compared to previous years, as last year saw over five million pilgrims visiting the Char Dham shrines, while in 2023, the attendance reached more than 5.6 million.

The yatra commenced on April 19 and is scheduled to conclude for the winter after the portals of Badrinath Dham are closed on November 16. The high turnout reflects the enduring significance of these sacred sites for devotees from across the country and beyond.

Most Visited Shrines This Season

Officials have reported that Badrinath Dham has emerged as the most frequented shrine this season, welcoming a total of 2,069,866 pilgrims. Following closely is Kedarnath Dham, which has recorded 1,775,059 visitors. These figures underline the popularity of these destinations among devotees, who travel to seek blessings at these historic temples.

Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya has stated that the administration is actively preparing for the upcoming winter Char Dham Yatra. As the deities transition to their winter abodes—Mukhba for Goddess Ganga and Kharsali for Goddess Yamuna—pilgrims will still have the opportunity to continue their spiritual journeys at these locations. The administration aims to ensure that arrangements are in place to facilitate a smooth experience for all pilgrims during this period.

The winter Char Dham Yatra for Kedarnath will commence following the closure of its portals and the arrival of the deity at its winter residence in Ukhimath. This transition is crucial for maintaining the continuity of the pilgrimage experience for devotees who wish to engage in worship during the colder months.

Winter Pilgrimage Preparations

Rajkumar Tiwari, president of Shree Kedar Sabha Teerth Purohit Samaj in Kedarnath, has highlighted the success of last year’s winter pilgrimage, which attracted a substantial number of tourists to Ukhimath. He noted that once the deity reaches its winter abode, pilgrims will be able to have continuous darshan throughout the winter season. This includes access to other nearby dhams, such as the Trijugi Narayan temple, which further enriches the pilgrimage experience.

The preparations for the winter season are being closely monitored to ensure that all necessary facilities are available for the pilgrims. Various executive agencies have been tasked with making arrangements that prioritise the convenience and safety of visitors, thereby enhancing their overall experience during the pilgrimage.

As the Char Dham Yatra progresses towards its conclusion, the focus remains on ensuring a seamless transition into the winter pilgrimage phase. The administration’s commitment to facilitating a smooth experience for devotees reflects the importance of these sacred sites in the spiritual landscape of India.
