Ukrainian Suspect Found Dead Amid Monaco Bombing Probe

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Ukrainian Security Service announced on Tuesday that the body of Anastasiia Berezovska, a Ukrainian national, has been located. She was sought by authorities in Monaco in relation to a bombing incident that targeted Vadym Yermolaiev, a prominent Ukrainian businessman with alleged ties to Russia, and his family. The Security Service of Ukraine, known as SBU, stated that she was found during a reconstruction of the crime.

Suspect’s Death Linked to Military Intelligence Officer

The SBU reported that an officer from Ukraine’s military intelligence alleged that he was responsible for Berezovska’s death, asserting he acted independently without notifying his superiors. This confession reportedly involved the assistance of a former law enforcement officer. Both individuals are now detained and accused of premeditated murder as investigations deepen into the incident.

The attack occurred on June 29, when an explosive device detonated, injuring three individuals, including a child. The incident reverberated across Monaco, a location known for its high-profile residents and events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Prince Albert II condemned the bombing, calling it an “odious act,” and announced that all public services had been activated to bolster security in the principality.

Interpol had previously identified the 39-year-old Berezovska as a key suspect and issued a Red Notice, urging her arrest for charges that include attempted murder and the placement of an explosive device in a public area. As of now, Interpol has not commented on the ongoing situation, indicating that the Red Notice will remain active until Monaco requests its retraction.

Investigation Yields New Evidence

As part of the investigation, the SBU revealed that attention was directed towards two suspects due to financial transactions made through cryptocurrency and bank accounts linked to Berezovska. The search at the residence of the former law enforcement officer led to the discovery of what authorities described as a basement resembling a torture chamber, raising further concerns regarding the case.

The recovery of Berezovska’s body revealed she suffered gunshot wounds to the head, with spent pistol casings found at the scene. The SBU, committed to transparency, has shared its findings with judicial authorities in Monaco and is pursuing further leads to identify those who orchestrated the attempted murder.

The focus of this ongoing investigation extends beyond Berezovska’s death, aiming to uncover the broader context and motivations behind the bombing that shocked the serene environment of Monaco. Authorities are diligently working to piece together the connections and directives that may have contributed to this violent act.
