Trump Asserts He Won’t Use of Nuclear Weapons Against Iran

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump made a definitive statement on April 24, declaring that he would not resort to nuclear weapons in a conflict with Iran. Addressing the media at the White House, he expressed disbelief over the question of nuclear weapon use, emphasising that such weaponry should not be utilised by anyone.

During the exchange, Trump reinforced his stance, stating, “A nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody.” His remarks came in the context of ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran regarding nuclear activities.

US Economic and Oil Supply Position

In his comments, Trump highlighted the strength of the US economy and the nation’s oil supply capabilities. He indicated that several ships were now routing to the US rather than traversing the Strait of Hormuz, purportedly as part of efforts to limit Iran’s nuclear programme. Trump asserted, “We are right now producing more oil than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined.”

He further elaborated that the US was importing substantial quantities of oil from Venezuela, signalling a self-sufficient energy stance. This development was underscored by his assertion that the current situation has resulted in no oil shortages for the United States.

Trump mentioned that the US has maintained “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it is being strategically kept closed to pressure Iran into negotiations. He expressed a desire for a lasting agreement, indicating that he would not rush the negotiation process despite acknowledging progress in talks.

Negotiation and Military Action Considerations

The President stated that the United States is under no obligation to hasten the end of conflicts in West Asia, asserting that his administration has successfully targeted a significant percentage of its military objectives. Trump detailed that Iran is reportedly encountering mounting pressure due to its oil situation.

He suggested that military action remains a viable option if negotiations fall through, stating, “If they don’t want to make a deal, then I will finish it up militarily.” He claimed that the US has achieved approximately 78 per cent of its military targets related to the ongoing situation.

Trump mentioned that Iran was facing immediate challenges regarding its oil storage capabilities, suggesting that failure to address these issues could lead to detrimental consequences. He indicated that Iran’s oil infrastructure might face severe complications if the situation is not properly managed.

Humanitarian Requests and Future Agreements

The President also addressed the humanitarian aspect of the interactions with Iran, noting that he had intervened concerning the execution of several Iranian women. According to Trump, his request led to Iran agreeing to halt their executions, with plans to release four of the women shortly.

When questioned about Iranian support for Hezbollah, Trump was clear in his expectation that Iran would need to cease funding for the organisation. His comments were framed within the broader context of the ongoing negotiations and efforts to reach a settlement.

Overall, President Trump’s statements reflect a complex perspective on US-Iran relations, encompassing military preparedness, economic strength, and the humanitarian considerations in ongoing negotiations.
