Trinamool Congress Submits Detailed Response to Election Commission Regarding AITC Leadership Dispute

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has formally submitted a comprehensive response to the Election Commission of India (ECI) concerning the ongoing leadership dispute within the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC). TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee revealed this development on July 6, asserting that the party’s National Working Committee is valid until 2027.

This follow-up comes in response to the ECI’s intervention, which sought clarification from both Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee about conflicting claims regarding the party’s organisational structure. Banerjee indicated that the party’s response was necessitated by a representation made by Ritabrata Banerjee, who has alleged that the tenure of the AITC committee is limited to three years, ending in 2025.

Clarifications on Committee Tenure

In his statements to the media, Banerjee asserted that allegations claiming the committee’s tenure had expired are inaccurate and lack constitutional backing. He emphasised the procedural integrity of the party’s governance and rejected arguments suggesting a lapse in the committee’s term.

Furthermore, he questioned the complainants’ rationale in disputing the committee’s legitimacy. According to Banerjee, if the committee’s validity indeed expired before 2025, those who contested elections under the party’s symbol should reconsider their standing within the party, as it would contradict their legal participation in recent elections.

Allegations of Fraudulent Practices

Banerjee also accused the opposing faction of employing dishonest tactics to establish a separate committee, labelling their actions as “fraudulent.” He expressed concern that these practices undermine the credibility of the party and its electoral processes.

He stated that the resolution pertaining to the formation of this separate faction was emblematic of dishonest conduct, contravening the interests of the AITC. Moreover, he claimed that support from external forces, including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, facilitated what he described as illegal occupation of party offices by the opposing faction.

As the internal rift appears to deepen within the TMC, the ECI’s directive for both factions to submit their responses highlights the growing complexities in the party’s leadership structure. The intricate dispute raises questions about the governance and future trajectory of the All India Trinamool Congress amidst these ongoing tensions.
