The CSR Journal Magazine

In an incident reported from Varanasi, three women have been accused of stealing undergarments valued at Rs 10,000 from a local shop. The purported theft occurred at a retailer located in the Lahurabir area, and the entire episode was documented by the store’s CCTV surveillance system. Based on a formal complaint lodged by the store’s owner, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code.

Details of the Theft

The owner of the shop, Sudip Singh, indicated that the alleged theft took place on the evening of February 24. In his complaint, he reported that the three women entered his establishment and removed items without paying. The CCTV footage, which has been submitted as evidence, reportedly shows one woman engaging a sales assistant in conversation while the other two discreetly loaded their bags with merchandise when the staff member was distracted. The theft was discovered when the shopkeeper conducted an inventory check and reviewed the surveillance footage.

Identities of the Accused

The individuals involved have been identified as Sunita Soni, who serves as the president of the Varanasi Mahila Vyapar Mandal and has previously acted as a brand ambassador for the Varanasi Municipal Corporation. The other two women captured in the footage are believed to be her daughter and sister-in-law. The police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and they are reviewing the evidence gathered thus far.

Response from the Accused

In light of the theft allegations, Sunita Soni has publicly denied any involvement. She stated that on the day of the incident, she was visiting the market with a group of women from Jaunpur and went to the shop under scrutiny. Soni claimed that she did not make a purchase because the items she needed were not available. According to her, she had left her contact information with the store but was unaware of the actions taken by the other women accompanying her.

Further Developments

Soni expressed her intent to reach out to the shopkeeper upon hearing about the allegations, and she asked the accompanying women to settle any bills for items that may have been taken. She emphasized her willingness to cooperate fully with both the shop owner and law enforcement authorities during the investigation process. Police have stated that additional steps will be pursued based on a thorough review of the footage and the overall circumstances of the case.
