Madhya Pradesh Launches APAAR ID Drive for 1.45 Crore Students

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has launched a campaign to issue APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs to school students across the state. The effort aims to provide a unique digital identity to more than 1.45 crore students.

As reported, the creation of APAAR IDs has already been completed for 1 crore 14 lakh 21 thousand students, which represents 78.5 per cent of the target population. This information was confirmed through the Education Department’s official X account.

The APAAR ID aims to ensure that every student carries a unique identifier akin to Aadhaar, fostering a streamlined approach to managing educational records. The plan includes integrating all essential student information into a single 12-digit APAAR ID, enhancing both accessibility and security.

The initiative underscores the critical role of schools and educational bodies in facilitating the completion of this registration process for any remaining students who have not yet received their IDs. The Education Department has stated that this campaign is not only a technical advancement but a vital step towards modernising the educational framework of Madhya Pradesh.

Digital Security of Academic Records

A key objective of the APAAR initiative is to ensure that students’ educational records and associated information are digitally secured. The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department emphasises that every student in the state will be assigned a unique APAAR ID, thereby safeguarding their academic history in a digital format. This move aims to eliminate the risks associated with physical record keeping, which can often lead to data loss or mismanagement.

The 12-digit APAAR ID will encompass comprehensive information related to a student, aimed at creating a single digital identity that will follow them throughout their academic journey. This repository will improve the accountability and transparency of educational data, making it easier for institutions to share and verify student records.

Through this initiative, the department seeks to bolster the overall educational structure in Madhya Pradesh by ensuring that every student’s academic achievements are recorded and easily accessible when required. This enhancement in educational data management is expected to streamline various processes, making future operations more efficient.

Understanding APAAR IDs and Their Benefits

The APAAR ID serves as a lifelong identification number for students and is part of the Centre’s broader “One Nation, One Student ID” initiative. This framework is designed to provide a singular digital academic identity for learners from pre-primary up to higher education. The APAAR IDs will be linked with students’ Aadhaar numbers after obtaining the necessary parental consent, ensuring authenticity and protection of personal data.

Additionally, the ID integrates with platforms such as DigiLocker and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), which facilitate the storage and transfer of academic records across different educational boards and institutions. The APAAR initiative aspires to create a permanent digital repository, which will not only enhance access but also ease the burden of documentation during educational transitions.

As the campaign progresses, the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department anticipates that the establishment of APAAR IDs will play a crucial role in reforming how educational data is managed. The overarching goal is to support the educational framework and ensure that every student is equipped with a secure, easily accessible digital identity throughout their academic career.
