The newly launched facelifted BMW i7 has made its debut in India, with prices beginning at Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom) for the i7 eDrive 50 variant. The performance-oriented i7 M70 xDrive is priced at Rs 2.65 crore. This mid-cycle update introduces enhancements in power, driving range, and cabin design, alongside subtle exterior modifications.

The cosmetic updates include a more upright and squared kidney grille with illuminated surrounds, redesigned LED headlights, and a refreshed bumper. Change is also evident in the alloy wheel designs and the retained flush-fitting door handles. At the rear, the sedan features smoked-effect tail-lamps and revisions to the tailgate and bumper. The M70 xDrive variant is identifiable by its larger front air intake and additional M branding, enhancing its sporty appeal.

Interior Upgrades And Technology Advancements

The i7’s interior has undergone more significant changes compared to the exterior. New to the model is the Panoramic Vision display, which projects key information across the lower section of the windscreen, replacing the traditional driver display. The central touchscreen has also been upgraded to 17.9 inches, running on BMW Operating System X, allowing for over-the-air updates and wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Enhanced voice-control functionality is now available.

Further improving passenger experience, a new 14.6-inch display has been added for front passengers. The centre console has been redesigned, increasing storage space and minimising physical controls. A cylindrical rotary drive selector has been integrated, and the dashboard’s new layout includes a four-spoke steering wheel, reminiscent of those found in BMW’s Neue Klasse models.

For rear passengers, the i7 continues to offer a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen combined with a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system featuring Dolby Atmos. Additional luxurious features include powered doors, a panoramic glass roof adorned with over 40 LED lights, powered ottomans, connected-car features, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The seats are not only electrically adjustable but also offer heating, ventilation, and massage options, while maintaining BMW’s distinctive Boss Mode functionality.

Performance Specifications And Charging Options

Equipped with a 112.5kWh battery pack, the i7 eDrive 50 delivers 455hp and 600Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 210 kph. The WLTP-certified range for this variant is now 728 km, which is an improvement of 125 km compared to its predecessor. In contrast, the M70 xDrive variant employs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, generating 680hp and 1,015Nm of torque in Sport mode, with torque increasing to 1,100Nm in Sport Boost mode.

This powerful variant can achieve the 0 to 100 kph sprint in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kph, although it has a slightly reduced WLTP range of 686 km. Both models support DC fast charging of up to 250kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in a brief 28 minutes. A ten-minute charge can yield an extra 235 km of range, and a full charge using a 22kW AC charger takes around six hours.

As part of the purchase, BMW is also providing a wallbox charger with installation included, which supports charging at up to 22kW. The i7 eDrive 50 will be locally assembled at BMW’s facility in Chennai, while the more powerful M70 xDrive will be imported to India as a completely built-up unit. Through this facelift, the i7 remains BMW India’s flagship electric sedan, offering an optimal balance of enhanced performance and a significantly upgraded interior.
