Telangana Police Arrest Three Mobile Phone Snatchers

The CSR Journal Magazine

Telangana Police apprehended a group of three individuals on Sunday believed to be responsible for numerous mobile phone snatching incidents within Hyderabad and its nearby areas. This action came after a report filed by Syed Nazeer Ahmed, a 59-year-old man, who claimed that on April 15, he was targeted by two unidentified men on a motorcycle who snatched his Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 from his shirt pocket near DMRL X Road.

A report was generated following Ahmed’s complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kanchanbagh Police Station. This case set in motion an investigation that ultimately facilitated the identification and arrest of the accused.

Identification and Criminal History of the Arrested Individuals

The three arrested individuals have been identified as Ambata Naresh, who works as a pickle vendor and is known for pickpocketing; Banala Arun Kumar, a labourer; and Mekala Chiranjeevi, who raises pigs. Police records indicate that all three have a history of criminal activity, with multiple cases registered against them across various districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Their charges include sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Banned Narcotic Substances (BNS) Act, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Authorities have outlined that the gang specialised in targeting elderly individuals and those who appeared distracted. On the day of the crime involving Mr Ahmed, Naresh is reported to have conducted a reconnaissance at a local tiffin centre while his accomplice Vasanth executed the snatching. Arun Kumar and Chiranjeevi reportedly acted as lookouts, facilitating the gang’s swift getaway.

Under the leadership of A. Sudhakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Chandrayangutta Division, a dedicated team comprising Station House Officer (SHO) J. Balaraju and Sub-Inspector (SI) K. Raju worked meticulously to track down the suspects. Their efforts were fruitful, leading to the speedy apprehension of the accused.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Actions

The police investigation has revealed the potential involvement of additional individuals connected to the gang’s activities. In response, law enforcement has formed specialised teams to pursue and apprehend these remaining suspects. The questioning of the arrested men has provided further insight into their operations and affiliations.

After their arrest, the accused will be presented in court for judicial remand, as the investigation continues to unfold. Authorities are committed to ensuring that those involved in the organisation are held accountable and removed from the streets to prevent further instances of mobile snatching.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to assist law enforcement in their continued efforts to combat such crimes. The police appreciate the cooperation of the local community in facilitating this investigation.
