A woman found deceased by the roadside in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, was initially presumed to be the victim of a road accident. However, police investigations conducted within 48 hours led to the discovery of an alleged conspiracy for murder orchestrated by her husband, Amar Singh, aimed at collecting a substantial insurance payout of Rs 44 lakh. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Reeta, was subsequently connected to an insurance plot involving Amar and three associates.

The case commenced on the night of July 29, when local farmers discovered a woman’s body lying on the roadside. Police responded promptly, gathering evidence and sending the deceased for a post-mortem examination. Initial impressions suggested a fatal accident, but her identity remained unknown until a bank slip was recovered, which ultimately led to her identification by law enforcement.

Husband’s Actions Raise Suspicion

As police attempted to piece together the events leading to Reeta’s death, Amar had already reported her missing at the local police station. He later arrived to identify her body once it was revealed that an unidentified woman had been discovered. Authorities allege that these actions were attempts by Amar to distance himself from any involvement in his wife’s death and create an impression of ignorance regarding the events that had transpired.

However, inconsistencies soon emerged in Amar’s narrative as investigators reviewed evidence from the scene and conducted technical surveillance. Within two days, the investigation shifted its focus, revealing what initially appeared to be an accident as a meticulously planned murder.

Scrutiny of the couple’s financial situation and marital history became critical to the investigation. Amar and Reeta had been married for approximately two and a half years. Reeta, who had previously lost her first husband, was reported to have met Amar while working in Kanpur.

Allegations of a Murder Plot for Financial Gain

Investigators alleged that the couple fell into financial distress, which became a motive for murder. According to police, Amar and his associates purportedly owed a considerable amount to an individual named Pushpendra Soni, also known as Sahil. Reports indicated that they took out an insurance policy in Reeta’s name, with a premeditated plan to kill her and pass off the death as an accident.

Interrogations suggested that Amar was to receive Rs 15 lakh from the insurance payout, while the remaining sum was to be distributed among his accomplices. The strategic planning behind the supposed scheme highlighted the underlying motive linked to their financial predicaments.

Authorities allegedly determined that the murder was executed on an arterial road near Paudhiya, where Amar’s associates awaited in a vehicle. It is claimed that Reeta was first struck by the car, causing her to fall into a ditch, and thereafter, the vehicle was reversed to run over her again, leading to her death.

Police Conclude Investigation and Make Arrests

After meticulously analysing evidence and surveillance data, police officers identified discrepancies in the initial accident narrative. This led them to focus on Amar and his accomplices. Consequently, law enforcement apprehended Amar along with three others identified as Amit Gupta, Pushpendra Soni, and Abhay Singh.

The vehicle supposedly used in the alleged crime, along with an Airtel SIM card, was seized by authorities. All four suspects were presented before a court as legal proceedings moved forward against them. Further investigations continue as the case unfolds, revealing the complexities of the tragic incident.
