Sonu Mishra Quits Kala Hiran, Alleges Pressure to Promote Campaign Against Salman Khan

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sonu Mmishra, known for his role alongside Salman Khan in the film Sikandar, has revealed his decision to withdraw from the film Kala Hiran. This choice allegedly stemmed from requests made during the film’s promotional strategy that involved speaking against Salman Khan, a significant figure in Bollywood. In an interview with the YouTube channel Bollywood Crazies, Sonu detailed his experience, indicating that his personal ethics played a crucial role in his departure.

Details of Sonu’s Departure

Initially offered the lead role in Kala Hiran, Sonu began filming but requested to review the script and contract after two days of shooting. Upon examining the contract, he discovered a clause that purportedly mandated him to publicly criticise Salman Khan as part of the film’s promotion. Sonu expressed regret regarding the direction of the narrative, which he felt aimed to cast Salman in a negative light.

He shared his mixed feelings about the project, stating, “I was very excited for Kala Hiran. I got the opportunity to play superstar Salman Khan. I had started shooting as well. But as a narrative starts to take shape, you realise what the film’s intent is.” Sonu maintained that his walkout was entirely motivated by ethical concerns rather than any kind of intimidation or fear, dismissing speculation about his motivations.

Notably, Sonu compared his situation to other actors who portray complex characters on screen, arguing that such roles do not define an actor’s integrity. He emphasised that his departure was a principled decision based on the film’s controversial ethos.

Controversy Surrounding Kala Hiran

Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, produced by Amit Jani of Jani FireFox Films and directed by Bharat S Shrinate, has already attracted significant criticism for its alleged connections to the 1998 blackbuck poaching case linked to Salman Khan during the filming of Hum Saath – Saath Hain. Following Sonu’s departure, the project has faced scrutiny from various quarters, including former collaborators.

Actor Govind Namdev recently stepped away from the project, stating he was uncertain how the lead character would be portrayed. These developments have heightened tensions surrounding the film, particularly after Salman Khan responded by sending a legal notice to producer Amit Jani. In a dramatic show of defiance, Jani publicly tore up the notice, stating that he had received threats to his life following the legal dispute.

The situation continues to evolve as reactions from the film industry and the public emerge. The controversy surrounding Kala Hiran raises important questions about ethics in filmmaking and the potential impact of narrative choices on individuals’ reputations within the industry.
