Shahid Kapoor teams up with director Vishal Bhardwaj for the fourth time in the film O’Romeo, which is set to hit theaters on February 13. The duo has previously collaborated on several acclaimed projects, including Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. The anticipation around O’Romeo has been heightened by its ensemble cast, captivating trailer, and an engaging music album.
CBFC Review and Modifications
This film has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), marking Shahid Kapoor’s second A-rated film following Kabir Singh. Despite the adult classification, the board mandated several modifications to the content before granting the final certification.
Key Changes Made by CBFC
In its review, the Examining Committee of the CBFC implemented multiple alterations in dialogue and visuals. Notably, the word ‘Item’ has been substituted with ‘Kumari’ in the script. Additionally, various terms were altered, with some muted entirely. Specific violent scenes also faced cuts, including a reduction of 20% in a close-up visual of throat cutting, along with a similar decrease in two other violent shots where blood is depicted. Another alteration involved reducing a scene showcasing a woman being slapped by 20% as well.
Additional Requirements for Film Release
The CBFC has also mandated the inclusion of anti-tobacco and anti-smoking disclaimers, requiring both the length and visibility of these messages, which adds nearly two minutes to the film’s runtime. After these adjustments were finalized, O’Romeo was granted its censor certificate on February 11.
Runtime and Significance
The final runtime of O’Romeo, as indicated on the censor certificate, is 178.41 minutes, making it the longest film to date for both Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj. The film’s length emphasizes its ambitious narrative and scale.
