Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP chief Harsh Malhotra honoured teachers from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Teachers’ Day at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium, Civic Centre, New Delhi, on September 5. The event saw the participation of Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi and various officials, celebrating the significant role teachers play in shaping the future.

During the ceremony, Malhotra shared personal anecdotes from his own educational journey, motivating the attendees to fully embrace their influential roles in fostering the development of students. He emphasised that the task of building a prosperous nation heavily relies on the dedication of teachers, casting them as pivotal figures in guiding both society and the educational landscape.

Malhotra further acknowledged the contributions of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, a revered educationist and former President of India, whose birthday is commemorated as Teachers’ Day. He remarked that the day serves as an homage not just to individual educators but to the entire education system and the longstanding Guru-Shishya tradition.

Focus on Educational Development and Technology

In his address, Malhotra underscored the importance of adapting to current technological advancements, urging teachers to ensure that students do not fall behind in acquiring new skills. He highlighted the necessity for students transitioning from fifth to sixth grade to complete their education without interruption, illustrating the continual commitment needed within municipal schools.

Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi reflected on his extensive public service, expressing profound appreciation when visiting municipal schools. The Mayor also introduced a ‘Mini League’ targeting students in municipal schools to discover sporting talent in cricket and football for the Under-9 and Under-11 age categories. These initiatives are designed to promote both academic and extra-curricular excellence within the schools.

Yogesh Verma, Chairman of the Education Committee, remarked that the event was not just a celebration but a commitment to providing direction and new energy to municipal schools. He reiterated that the launch of the 24 ‘Nigam Shree’ schools would contribute to building a vibrant future for the nation.
