Severe Heat Wave Expected in Northwestern India as Northeast Prepares for Rain

The CSR Journal Magazine

India is bracing for significant weather variations as one part of the country faces extreme temperatures while another prepares for heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for continued severe heat wave conditions in Gujarat and adjacent southwest Madhya Pradesh on Friday, March 13. Meteorologist Devendra Tripathi, known for his analysis on weather trends, indicated that the discomfort is set to intensify in these regions. He emphasized that the heat and humidity in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and West Madhya Pradesh are expected to persist.

Temperature Records Set in Delhi

Recent meteorological data revealed that Delhi experienced its highest temperature of the season, with Safdarjung reporting 36.8 degrees Celsius, significantly above the seasonal average. This spike in temperature is also being felt in Southern India, with rising heat levels in Telangana, north interior Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, where humid conditions are likely to continue.

Predictions of Heavy Rainfall in Northeast India

In stark contrast to the heat in the west, the IMD has forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh on March 13, along with thunderstorms across Northeast India. High moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal is expected to cause substantial rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Tripathi added that while some weather activity is still present in the western Himalayan region, it is gradually moving away, though isolated snowfall and light rain are possible in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh.

Upcoming Western Disturbance and Relief for Northern Plains

The ongoing dry spell in northern India may soon come to an end as a new Western Disturbance is predicted to arrive in the region on March 14. This weather system is anticipated to bring pre-monsoon showers and thunderstorms to areas including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana over the weekend, which may help lower temperatures back to around 30 degrees Celsius. Tripathi mentioned that while clouds are expected to form over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, any significant precipitation in these areas is unlikely until more favorable conditions emerge in two to three days.
