Two dogs trapped at the bottom of a 60-foot-deep well in Maharashtra’s Jalna district were given a second chance at life following a daring rescue operation. The dogs had fallen into the well and were unable to escape, making distressing noises as they struggled to get out.

Challenges Faced by Local Authorities

The depth of the well posed significant challenges, making it impossible for local resources to retrieve the dogs safely. Upon learning of the situation, the District Magistrate’s office was contacted to seek assistance. An assistant to the District Magistrate reached out to the Manwithindis Foundation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, sharing photographs of the trapped dogs and highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Recognising the critical nature of the rescue, Ashish Joshi, the director of the foundation, promptly assembled a rescue team and set off for Jamwadi. The team travelled approximately 90 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to reach the site where the dogs were trapped.

Upon arrival, the team began preparations for the operation, which required careful planning and safety measures due to the well’s depth. Wildlife rescuers Deepak Watane and Jai Desai, along with Honorary Wildlife Warden Ashish Joshi, took necessary precautions before attempting the descent into the well.

Successful Rescue Efforts

The operation was particularly challenging due to the well’s depth, requiring the rescuers to navigate a dangerous descent while trying to reach the frightened dogs. Despite the risks involved, the team successfully managed to secure both animals and bring them back to the surface safely.

The successful rescue operation was met with relief and gratitude from the local villagers, who appreciated the team’s efforts in travelling such a long distance and undertaking a perilous task. The two dogs, once trapped at the bottom of a 60-foot well, were safely returned to solid ground, thanks to the dedication of the rescue team.
