Sangli Shocker: Father Loses Cool, Beats Daughter to Death Over Low Score in NEET Mock Test

In a shocking incident from Sangli district in Maharashtra a girl was beaten to death by her father. A 17-year-old girl, Sadhna Bhonsle, was allegedly beaten to death by her own father. This comes after she scored low marks in a NEET mock exam. The horrifying incident occurred on Saturday night in Nelkaranji village, located in Atpadi tehsil, Sangli.

According to reports, Sadhna was a bright and ambitious student. She had previously secured an impressive 92.6% in her Class 10 state board exams. Following this, she was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This entrance exam is required for admission to medical colleges all over India. During her preparations, she attempted a mock exam. The girl scored lower than expected in the mock test, an outcome that led to a fatal altercation at home.

Father Loses Cool, Assaults Daughter with Stick

Dhondiram Bhonsle, the accused, is a 45-year-old schoolteacher. He reportedly became enraged after seeing his daughter’s mock test results. In a moment of fury, he picked up the wooden handle of a stone grinder, commonly used for grinding grain. Bhonsle then struck Sadhna multiple times with the wood stick. The assault allegedly took place in front of her mother and younger brother.

Following the brutal assault Sadhna sustained serious head injuries. She was rushed to the nearby Ushakal Hospital in Sangli. However she died before receiving medical attention. Her body was later sent for postmortem to analyse the cause of her death. The post-mortem report confirmed that the cause of death was multiple injuries, particularly to the head.

Mother Files Complaint, Father arrested

An official police complaint was filed on June 22 by Sadhna’s mother. She stated that her husband had attacked their daughter over her low performance in the exam. Following the complaint, Dhondiram Bhonsle was arrested by the police. Senior Inspector Vinay Bahir of Atpadi police station confirmed the arrest. He also noted that the father is currently in police custody until June 24. Investigations are still underway.

Academic Pressure

The recent case of brutality has drawn widespread outrage and reignited concerns over extreme academic pressure and toxic parenting. While Sadhna who once stood out as a high-achiever, a single mock test score became the cause of her death. The recent tragedy underscores the urgent need for emotional support and responsible parenting. Especially for students preparing for high-stakes exams like NEET, JEE.
