Hindu Group Demands Restoration of Video After Meta’s Removal

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has alleged that Meta has engaged in actions against the Hindu community by removing a video featuring Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The video, which invited people to attend the World Hindu Congress 2026 in Mumbai, was taken down shortly after being posted. The VHP has called for Meta to either restore the video and issue a public apology or face legal repercussions.

On October 26, the World Hindu Congress shared a short video on various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. However, within hours, Meta restricted access to the video in India, stating that it was “unavailable” due to legal requirements under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules.

Meta explained that the decision to restrict the video was made following a legal request and after a review of the content against its policies. The company conducted a legal and human rights assessment before imposing the restriction, though it did not specify which legal provision the video allegedly violated.

World Hindu Congress Seeks Clarity from Meta

The World Hindu Congress has formally requested Meta to clarify the specific legal grounds for the video’s removal. In their communication, they have urged for transparency regarding the actions taken against the video and have called for its reinstatement. The organisation expressed concern over the lack of clarity on the legal basis for the restriction, emphasising the need for a clear response from Meta.

Following the initial removal, the World Hindu Congress attempted to repost the video on October 27, only to have it taken down again the next day. The organisation has reiterated its demand for accountability and has sought assurance that similar removals will not occur in the future.

VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal has threatened legal action against Meta if the video is not restored and a public apology is not issued. He questioned the rationale behind the removal, stating, “On what offence or violation of law was this action taken?” Bansal has also called upon the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to intervene in the matter.

Upcoming World Hindu Congress Event Details

The World Hindu Congress is scheduled to take place in Mumbai from December 18 to 20, 2026. This global conference aims to bring together Hindu leaders, thinkers, activists, and organisations from around the world. The previous edition of the congress was held in Bangkok in 2023.

The event will focus on seven key themes: economy, education, media, politics, women, youth, and Hindu organisations. Approximately 4,000 delegates from various countries are expected to attend, including notable figures such as RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

As the situation develops, the VHP and the World Hindu Congress continue to seek clarity and accountability from Meta regarding the removal of the video. The organisations have made it clear that they will pursue all available avenues to address what they perceive as unjust actions against their community.
