The rising water levels of the Ganga have led to significant erosion in Danapur, Bihar, according to statements made by State Minister Ram Kripal Yadav on August 24. The minister reported that multiple areas are facing erosion, which poses serious risks to both lives and property in the region. He emphasised the need for immediate measures to support flood-affected residents.

Yadav conducted an on-site inspection of the affected areas alongside government officials and party members. During his visit, he received firsthand accounts of the challenges faced by local communities due to the flooding. The minister noted that it is imperative for the administration to ensure that residents do not encounter shortages of essential supplies.

Emergency Measures and Supply Arrangements Implemented

In response to the flooding, the minister issued directives for the administration to arrange boats in locations where road access has been compromised. He also underscored the importance of providing ration supplies to villages that have been completely isolated by the rising waters. Yadav’s instructions were clear: all efforts must be made to facilitate safe passage and deliver essential resources.

He mentioned that several shelters have been established for displaced residents, highlighting the importance of preparing these facilities to meet the needs of those affected by the floods. The minister indicated that the readiness of shelters is crucial in providing immediate assistance and ensuring the safety of the displaced population.

Additionally, Yadav noted the role of government-operated boat services in facilitating connectivity during elevated water levels. These services, operational for several years through collaboration between the Central and state governments, are critical for residents living in exposed areas.

Local Officials Assess Impact and Coordinate Relief Efforts

Danapur Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Anirudh Pandey acknowledged that the recent surge in the Ganga’s water level has exacerbated erosion in the area. He confirmed that the administration is focused on maintaining basic amenities, including ferry services, while working collaboratively with the Water Resources Department to address the ongoing erosion issues.

The flooding situation is becoming increasingly precarious as rising water levels place significant pressure on low-lying settlements along the riverbanks. Local authorities are closely monitoring these vulnerable areas and have initiated measures to sustain connectivity while ensuring the provision of essential services to affected residents.

Special attention is being given to erosion, which threatens homes and other structures along the river. Officials are coordinating with various departments to evaluate high-risk locations in order to implement necessary interventions.
