Rajasthan Highways Go Smart: AI System to Catch Overspeeding Vehicles Instantly

The CSR Journal Magazine

To improve highway safety, monitor traffic violations in real time, the Rajasthan government deploys AI-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in three major state highways. The three major corridors include Shahjahanpur–Ajmer, Bar–Jodhpur, and Sikar–Bikaner. This technology has been developed in collaboration with Vehant Technologies.

ITMS offers instant detection of over speeding vehicles, wrong lane changes, wrong-lane driving, and it also detects vehicles that stop abruptly at risky locations. This shift to ITMS is seen as a shift to smarter digital highways.

What is ITMS System?

AI-powered Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), as the name suggests is an advanced traffic monitoring network that is a combination of AI-powered cameras, radar sensors, automated enforcement software, and real-time analytics that will monitor vehicle movement. The software has the capacity of detecting the Number Plate, has radar-based speed detection systems.

This advance technology has been deployed in

27 locations covering 81 traffic lanes of Shahjahanpur–Ajmer corridor
6 locations across 20 lanes of Bar–Jodhpur corridor
11 locations spanning 28 lanes of Sikar–Bikaner corridor
What violations can be tracked?

The following violation can be detected instantly

Overspeeding
Wrong-lane driving
Helmet violations
Seatbelt violations
Mobile phone use while driving
Triple riding on two-wheelers
Heavy vehicles driving in restricted lanes
In the new system e-challans will be produced instantly, and sent instantly to the registered mobile number of the vehicle owner.

Real-Time Monitoring

In order to manage and control the ITMS network efficiently, control rooms have been set up at district-level. It will be monitored real time by government authorities. Through this control room, it will be ensured that traffic is managed efficiently, and in case of accidents response teams are sent within no time.

It is believed that through the new system safety will be enhanced, in case of vehicle breakdowns alerts instantly sent to control rooms, and quick action taken.
