Punjab Conducts Large-Scale Parent-Teacher Meetings Across 19,000 Schools. Here’s Why

The Punjab government has organised extensive Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) on Saturday, reaching over 19,000 government schools within the state. This initiative aimed to enhance parental involvement in the educational process, reflecting a significant commitment to student achievement and engagement.

Reportedly, the event, titled “Sikhiya Da Maha Jashan,” was designed to commemorate Punjab’s commendable ranking in the NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report for 2026. The state government asserted that it has outperformed Kerala in key foundational learning metrics. This accomplishment has been framed as a notable achievement in Punjab’s educational landscape.

With participation exceeding 20 lakh parents, the PTMs also hosted workshops addressing crucial topics such as maintaining learning continuity during the summer, managing holiday homework, and fostering effective study routines. These sessions aimed to empower parents with the tools needed to support their children’s education during school breaks.

Acknowledging Achievements in Education

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted the recognition of exemplary performance within the educational sector during the PTM programme. Teachers and non-teaching staff were honoured for their contributions, underscoring the importance of their roles in the academic success of students.

Additionally, students who excelled in board examinations, those who participated in the English Edge Programme, and successful JEE qualifiers received certificates acknowledging their achievements. This recognition aimed to motivate students and foster a culture of excellence within Punjab’s schools.

Leading up to the event, training sessions for teachers and school heads were conducted via a live YouTube broadcast. These sessions focused on strategies to engage parents effectively during the PTMs, ensuring that the meetings were both informative and productive.

Coordination and Community Engagement

To facilitate a smooth execution of the meetings, School Management Committees and facilitators were deployed throughout the state. Their role was crucial in ensuring effective coordination and mobilising parents to participate in the events. The collaborative effort demonstrated the government’s commitment to strengthening the relationship between schools and families.

Minister Bains described the success of the PTMs as a significant milestone under the “Punjab Sikhya Kranti” initiative. He attributed this achievement to the collective efforts of teachers, students, and parents, emphasizing the vital role of collaboration in enhancing educational standards within the state.

As Punjab continues to position itself as a leader in educational quality, initiatives like these PTMs serve to deepen the connection between home and school. By actively involving parents in their children’s education, the government aims to create a supportive learning environment and promote overall student success.
