Prince Yadav and Bishnoi Named Injury Replacements for India Tour of England and Zimbabwe

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s preparations for upcoming cricket assignments have been adversely affected by injury setbacks in their bowling department. Two players, fast bowler Harshit Rana and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, have both sustained hamstring injuries during the recent Twenty20 International series against England at Trent Bridge. This situation necessitated immediate action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which announced the appointment of Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi as replacements.

The injuries were sustained during a demanding third T20I match in Nottingham. Harshit Rana reported intense discomfort in his right hamstring, leading to diagnostic examinations that confirmed a Grade 1 hamstring tear. This injury rules him out of the imminent three-match One-Day International series against England. Rana is expected to return to India to report directly to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for recovery and rehabilitation.

Similarly, Varun Chakaravarthy experienced sudden left hamstring discomfort during the same match. Subsequent MRI scans revealed he has a Grade 2 hamstring injury. Medical specialists advised that Chakaravarthy be withdrawn from the upcoming T20I tour of Zimbabwe. Like Rana, he will proceed to the COE for evaluation and rehabilitation.

New Additions to the Squad

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has quickly identified replacements. Prince Yadav has been chosen to replace Rana in the ODI squad for the series against England. Yadav has shown impressive form, having claimed 16 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this season, followed by performances in recent ODI and T20I matches.

Ravi Bishnoi returns to the squad for the T20Is in Zimbabwe in place of Chakaravarthy. His selection follows a brief absence, having been omitted from the playing XI for the third T20I due to a disappointing performance at Old Trafford, where he allowed 60 runs in four overs. Bishnoi’s return offers him a chance to redeem himself on the international stage.

The squad modifications occur at a critical time. The One-Day International team, captained by Shubman Gill and including prominent players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, is aiming to regain its rhythm as it prepares for the first ODI at Edgbaston. Shreyas Iyer serves as vice-captain for the ODI series and will take over the captaincy for the T20I squad heading to Zimbabwe later this month.

Upcoming Fixtures and Squad Details

India seeks to reverse its recent form during its UK tour, having suffered a comprehensive 4-0 series defeat against England, which saw them lose their position at the top of the T20I rankings. The updated squad for the ODI matches in England includes Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Prince Yadav.

In Zimbabwe, the T20I squad comprises Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Rinku Singh, Harsh Dubey, Prince Yadav, Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Mayank Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh (Wicketkeeper), and Ravi Bishnoi.

The schedule for the England vs India ODI series is as follows: the first ODI in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14; the second ODI in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16; and the third ODI in London on Sunday, July 19. The T20I series against Zimbabwe will consist of three matches, with the first T20I on Thursday, July 23, the second on Saturday, July 25, and the third on Sunday, July 26, all set to take place in Harare.
