The CSR Journal Magazine

President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack on its first anniversary, which occurred on April 22. She emphasised that such violent acts will not undermine India’s commitment to maintaining peace. In a message posted on X, she stated, “The tragic loss of innocent lives in that heinous act remains etched in our collective memory. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The entire nation stands with them.”

Political Leaders Pay Tribute

On the same day, various political figures also honoured the memory of the victims. Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, emphasised that responsibility for this tragic event will never be forgotten, as he mentioned that “the grief of the martyrs’ families is the grief of us all.” Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reaffirmed the nation’s solidarity against terrorism, stating that the country remains united and resilient.

This anniversary serves as a solemn reminder of the 2025 Pahalgam attacks, in which 26 tourists tragically lost their lives. Kharge called for collective strength in the face of such violence, reaffirming the necessity of strength against those who perpetrate terror.

A memorial event took place in Tangdhar, where approximately 2000 students and members of civil society participated in solidarity marches. Participants held national flags and displayed messages such as “Stop terror attack,” “We condemn attack on tourists,” and “We stand for innocent tourists.” Students from Shiksha Niketan High School gathered to remember the lives lost, connecting themes of tragedy and environmental awareness, as the event coincided with Earth Day.

Vice President and Community Tributes

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also paid tribute to the victims, reaffirming India’s resolve to combat terrorism. He addressed the nation on the significance of remembering those lost and reiterated the commitment to curbing such acts of violence. This statement positions India firmly in its ongoing struggle against terrorism, reinforcing the collective memory of the tragic events that transpired a year ago.

The Pahalgam attack in 2025 shocked the nation and drew significant media attention after 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed militants in a targeted attack. The incident, which has been described as based on religious identity, raised concerns about the security of tourists in the region.

In response to the attack, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. This operation aimed to dismantle terror infrastructure across the border, specifically targeting bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Numerous terror launchpads linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen were reportedly destroyed, indicating a robust response to the ongoing threat of terrorism.

The operation led to heightened tensions, including cross-border shelling and drone attacks, before a ceasefire agreement was reached on May 10 after discussions at the level of Director Generals of Military Operations. This incident remains a critical point in India’s counter-terrorism efforts and highlights the ongoing challenges in ensuring national security.
