A 24-year-old woman, six months into her pregnancy, has reportedly been murdered by her husband in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The deceased, identified as Puja Mondal, was discovered on Wednesday evening in her residence located in the Lenin Nagar area of Garulia. Authorities reported that her body was wrapped in plastic and concealed beneath a bed.

Arrests Made in Connection with the Case

The police have taken three individuals into custody regarding this incident, including her husband, Rishi Harichand, along with his mother and another family member. A formal murder case has been registered, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Allegations of Financial Dispute

According to the complaint lodged by Mondal’s family, it is alleged that she was killed after she declined to comply with her husband’s monetary demands. Initial investigations suggest that Harichand may have strangled her using a piece of cloth while attempting to conceal his actions by hiding the body afterward.

Background of the Relationship

Local sources indicate that Puja Mondal and Rishi Harichand had been married for approximately two years. Reports from her family suggest that she had endured ongoing financial harassment from her husband and in-laws since their marriage, which was not accepted by her family at the outset. Despite her pregnancy, they claim that this harassment persisted.

Family’s Attempt to Reach Victim

On the day of the incident, Mondal’s family became concerned when they were unable to contact her. They visited her in-laws’ residence later that afternoon but found no trace of her. Alarmed by the situation, they notified the police, who subsequently located her body hidden under the bed.

Family’s Remarks on the Situation

Puja’s maternal uncle, Goutam Biswas, provided details about the relationship, stating, “Rishi would demand money from my niece Puja. They married each other without our consent. None of our family had accepted them initially. Later, we learned of her pregnancy and decided to accept them.” He further noted that Harichand did not have a job, leading to frequent monetary demands from Puja.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Following the incident, it was reported that Rishi Harichand, along with his mother and another relative, surrendered at the police station. Authorities have confirmed that further investigations into the matter are underway to uncover more details surrounding this tragic event.
