The CSR Journal Magazine

PM Modi received congratulatory messages from several world leaders ahead of becoming the longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister in India’s history, with leaders praising his governance, economic reforms and advocacy for the Global South.

Messages from Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea and Trinidad and Tobago highlighted India’s transformation under PM Modi’s leadership and underscored the growing global stature of the country.

Sri Lankan President Praises India’s Transformation

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka conveyed the congratulations of the government and people of Sri Lanka in a letter dated June 8, describing the milestone as a reflection of the trust repeatedly reposed in PM Modi by the people of India.

“This milestone is a testament not only to your years in office, but also to the trust and confidence that the people of the world’s largest democracy have repeatedly placed in your leadership,” the Sri Lankan President wrote.

Disanayaka also commended India’s economic and social progress and said PM Modi’s vision had inspired many countries, including Sri Lanka.

The message comes months after PM Modi visited Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 this year. During the trip, he was conferred the Mitra Vibhushana, the island nation’s highest civilian honour for a foreign dignitary. The visit also reaffirmed India’s Neighbourhood First policy and highlighted New Delhi’s support to Sri Lanka during its economic crisis in 2022.

Papua New Guinea PM Calls Modi A Role Model

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape, in a personal video message, described PM Modi as “a role model and an example of leadership.”

Marape praised India’s poverty alleviation efforts and said lifting more than 200 million people out of poverty represented an extraordinary achievement. He also expressed his country’s desire to further strengthen ties with India.

PM Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea in May 2023 had marked the first-ever trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the Pacific nation. The visit, held in conjunction with the Third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Summit, was seen as a significant step in deepening India’s engagement with Pacific Island countries and the broader Global South.

Trinidad And Tobago PM Highlights India’s Global Role`

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago also extended her congratulations, saying India had emerged as a leading voice on international issues under PM Modi’s leadership.

She highlighted his journey from humble beginnings to leading a nation of more than 1.4 billion people across three terms and noted India’s achievements in foreign policy, infrastructure development, economic growth and social welfare.

PM Modi visited Trinidad and Tobago in July 2025, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation in 26 years. The visit coincided with the 180th anniversary of the arrival of Indian immigrants to Trinidad and Tobago and was viewed as a milestone in bilateral relations.

The messages from world leaders come as India continues to expand its diplomatic footprint and strengthen partnerships across regions. They also underscore the recognition of PM Modi’s role in shaping India’s global profile and promoting the interests of developing nations on the international stage.
