Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a series of bilateral meetings with world leaders, including his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian, France.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties, enhancing cooperation in emerging sectors and reviewing progress in key strategic partnerships. PM Modi later shared details of the meetings in separate posts on X.
PM Modi, Mark Carney Discuss India-Canada Ties
Following his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, PM Modi said the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and economy, energy, technology and people-to-people ties.
“It was a delight to meet Prime Minister Carney on the sidelines of the Évian G7 Summit. In less than a year, it is our fourth meeting, indicating our commitment to strong India-Canada ties,” PM Modi wrote on X.

The latest meeting comes months after Carney’s visit to India from February 27 to March 2, during which the two countries signed agreements on uranium and critical minerals supplies and agreed to conclude a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Bilateral Relations Recover After Diplomatic Strain
During Carney’s India visit, both countries had also agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as defence, critical technologies, small and modular nuclear reactors, education and renewable energy.
The frequent interactions between PM Modi and Carney have reflected efforts by both countries to rebuild ties that had deteriorated during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Relations between New Delhi and Ottawa had come under strain following allegations made by Trudeau regarding a possible Indian link to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, allegations that India had strongly rejected.
PM Modi Reviews India-UK Partnership With Starmer
PM Modi also met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and highlighted the progress made in India-UK relations over the past year, particularly after the signing of the free trade agreement between the two countries.
“Had a wonderful meeting with PM Keir Starmer in Évian. The last year has been outstanding as far as India-UK relations are concerned. The trade deal has opened many avenues of economic cooperation. Today’s talks focused on how to add even more momentum to India-UK ties,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that the two leaders discussed cooperation in innovation, artificial intelligence, skill development and sports, besides exploring ways to increase investment linkages.
Focus on Emerging Sectors and Investments
According to PM Modi, both sides reviewed opportunities to strengthen collaboration in emerging sectors and enhance economic engagement for the benefit of people in both countries.
India and the UK have increasingly expanded cooperation in areas ranging from technology and clean energy to education and investment.
The bilateral meeting came amid growing momentum in ties following the implementation of the free trade agreement signed last year.
PM Modi Meets UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed
Apart from his meetings with Carney and Starmer, PM Modi also held talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whom he referred to as his “brother”.
