G7 Reaffirms ‘Unwavering Support’ for Ukraine

In a joint declaration, the Heads of State and Government of the G7 reiterated their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

“We, the Heads of State and Government of the G7, stand united in our unwavering support for Ukraine as it defends its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We reaffirm our solidarity with the Ukrainian people, whose vital infrastructure and cultural heritage are under attack. We commend Ukraine for its resilience and the progress it has made on the front lines in recent months, and we emphasize that there is now renewed momentum,” the statement said.

The leaders praised Ukraine for the resilience shown by its citizens and acknowledged the progress made by its armed forces in recent months.

The declaration also highlighted what the G7 described as renewed momentum in international efforts related to the conflict.

Additional Military Aid and Sanctions on Russia

The G7 leaders agreed to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities by providing additional air defence systems, interceptors and long-range ammunition.

They also backed measures to expand Ukraine’s domestic military production through the granting of licences and pledged further support to ensure the country’s energy requirements are met ahead of the winter season.

As part of efforts to increase pressure on Moscow, the leaders announced plans to tighten sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and gas sectors.

The declaration also welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to pursuing steps aimed at ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The latest commitments underscore the G7’s continuing support for Kyiv as the war enters another year, with Western nations seeking to sustain Ukraine’s military capabilities while intensifying economic pressure on Russia.
