The CSR Journal Magazine

A distressing case has emerged from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Here, a 21-year-old nurse was found dead inside a private hospital bathroom under suspicious circumstances. The incident occurred on Sunday at a hospital located in the Lajpat Nagar area.

The deceased, identified as Chandni, was originally from Siwan district in Bihar. She had been working at the hospital for the past month and had been residing with a local family in the Rawatpur area of Kanpur for the last six years.

Missing After Night Duty

According to police and hospital sources, Chandni reported for duty on Saturday night as scheduled. However, during the morning shift change on Sunday, she was found to be missing. Her colleagues, concerned by her absence, began looking for her. Their search led them to a locked bathroom located inside a private room on the hospital’s third floor. When repeated knocking went unanswered, staff broke open the door and discovered her lifeless body on the floor.

Initial Investigations Point to Suicide

Upon examining the scene, police recovered several injections and medications, prompting suspicions that the young nurse may have taken her own life by injecting a poisonous substance. A police official stated that the nature of the substances is yet to be determined, and a post-mortem examination has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of death. For now, the incident is being treated as a suspected suicide.

As the investigation continues, the hospital administration has not released any official statement regarding the incident. The lack of communication from the hospital has raised questions about staff supervision and internal protocols.

A Similar Incident Recently

This case comes just a week after a similar incident was reported from Bhubneshwar. A 26-year-old nurse was found dead in a private hospital under circumstances later confirmed as suicide. In that case, a suicide note and CCTV footage revealed that the nurse had injected herself. Reportedly overcome with guilt after an incident involving alleged professional negligence.

Both incidents highlight growing concerns around mental health and stress among frontline medical workers, especially nurses, many of whom work long hours under immense pressure.

Police are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports before drawing final conclusions in Chandni’s case. Investigations remain ongoing.
